I think it would look much better Blued. The Stainless is just too damn shiney.

...I prefer the stainless...but not that caliber....243 would be my choice for a single-shot...there's something fascinating about a #1...but the price ain't it...

They are expensive, but so neat. I have three of them and I don’t need another one, but it is a 250-3000 and they don’t make many of them, no I don’t need it, but I want it. |

Of course you do. Find a gun you don't want. Now there's a challenge. |

Clover leap at 100 yards, have shot several Texas size deer's with it never have had one run off. All of the shots were 75 yards or less. Last edited by Ornery; 11-20-2011 at 02:08 AM. |

The twist rate of the M99 BBL almost dictates the 87 gr. I tried heavier weights and never got good groupings then went to the lighter bullet and at 33 gr of 4064 it shot to 5/8" and I said that works and loaded up a supply. My next challenge is with my A-Bolt in 257 Roberts. I'm planning on a deer hunt in NC next fall and would like to bring that along with my 270. |

My pet 270 Win load is 56.0 gr of H4831 under a Sierra 130 gr and a Federal LR primer. In my M77 it gives me an honest 3/4" off bags which is perfect for my hunting use.

That one's been a looong time coming. Many gave up on it it took so long. I'd definitely jump if it were blued but stainless #1's...just loose so much style and class.

I am kind of a .250 Savage "Junkie" and would love one but, alas, I am still financially recovering from my last "Fix" of .250, |

I have a M99 in 250 Sav with a Mfg date of 1954. Someone had it D&T'ed so it is more of a working gun although it is in great shape. It is an excellent shooter with the 87 gr bullet and so so with the larger ones. I think they designed it around the 87 gr as they wanted the 3,000 FPS. Great deer rifle and the only issue I have experienced is light strikes on some of my reloads. I took it to a smith and he said nothing was wrong with it so I suspect carbon build up.

There was a change in rifling twists (sometime after the war) in the .250 99s to make them more friendly to the 100 gn bullets. I tried loading some 117s and 120s in a prechange-waste of time. Not great in the post change either althought the post change models are superb with the 100s.
