For those of you that have been around here for a while, you might remember I posted pictures of a Model 63 Winchester that a friend of mine wanted me to redo for him. Well, here is the results. I put a few rounds through it, and that 50 year old girl is a FINE shooter.

I didn't redo the metal, I just polished it up really well with Flitz. The wood is redone with Birchwood Casey True Oil, and Johnson's paste wax. I didn't take out all the flaws in the wood as it wouldn't have matched the wore blueing. But it sure looks better than it did.

This is the before close up of the butt stock...it was in pretty rough shape.

an outstanding job and a labor of love indeed...........but if ya was thinkin' about buyin' it from your bud, it just might cost a bit more now...............

I don't think he'll sell Deputy...he's 87 years old, and bought the gun new in 1957. If he hasn't sold it by now, he's probably not going to. I hope to bring it back to him in South Carolina this February.

...all I can say is drive slowly...I'd hate to put that much effort into a fine weapon and then have to turn loose of it....you did an excellent job!!!!

This is one of those threads I keep going back to. Just love the Model 63's and if I ever find one at a reasonable price will grab it.

What's reasonable Chance?...I see them come up for sale once in awhile around here. They are sweet shooting little guns.

I had to give that one back to it's rightful owner...It was TOUGH. The old guy was VERY happy with how it turned out, and was dumbfounded when I wouldn't take any money for doing the work. Our friends in South Carolina have been so good to us, that it was the least I could do.

...I just re-read that post...he couldn't have bought that gun new in '57...it was made long before that.....you sure did increase the appearance value a lot....labor of love indeed....

Sheepdog, it was in fact 1957. The model 63 Winchesters were made until 1958. The only difference between the prewar, and postwar guns were the groove on top of the receiver to except claw type scope mounts.

They are sweet old guns, and that one was very accurate.

Heck I didn't know until I looked up the serial number. The only thing the gentleman who bought it remembered was that he bought it new sometime in the 50's. I did the research from there.

Was thinking reasonable as 200-250 range, max. Know it's not too likely but what the heck. And you are right about production with 175,000 Model 63s being built between 1933 and 1958. Winchester reintroduced the Model 63 High Grade in 1997 chambered in the (impossible to find) 22 auto caliber, essentially making it a new and engraved version of the Model 03.

Was thinkin' 136 bucks would be about right JGB, whatz ya think? It's very rough but the price was right.

Are you going to pretty her up, or leave her looking her years? Either way, that's a fine little .22 you got there. Now you just need the model 61 to go along with it! I wouldn't tell that to your wife though.

Gonna kinda split the middle. There are some areas of steel that require the attention of sand paper. The stocks will get gone over with scotch brite and then oiled. That will maintain their coloration while getting some sheen. Will probably use a lot of cold blueing going over the entire gun including the remaining blue and discoloration then wiping it off fast to more tocut the shine from the scotch brite than to actually blue the bbl. Have been out messing with it for a couple of hours today.

Gonna shoot my Model 63 with my son and grandson today JGB. Been a fun project alothough not finished yet. You are a good influence.

They sure are cool little guns aren't they. I was really happy to get that one back to the rightful owner, but I was sure sorry to see it go.
