Lightbulb H&R Buffalo Classic 45/70

Anyone else like the looks of these? I'm thinking about picking one up like this one, or the standard H&R handi 45-74 with the 22" barrel.

A guy on the Paco Kelly site has one with a old school brass scope on it as long as the barrel...
They are sweet guns in my book, but no one will read my book...

I think they look classy. Probably a shoulder buster though!

Re: H&R Buffalo Classic 45/70

They look like really cool guns. I've almost sprung for one a few times then think, jeeze, I don't need another 45/70 [which happens to be my favorite rifle caliber]. Doesn't have to be a shoulder buster loaded with 16 gr Unique pushing a 300 gr lead round nose.

Not a good caliber if you don't reload unless you are a weekly lotto winner.

Re: H&R Buffalo Classic 45/70

...they would have been welcome in the early days of the West...when they had black powder...firearms like this would have been like our having a battle rifle...they could shoot 5 while a BP man was reloading...and this would doubtless be more accurate than what they had then...a case of these would have been welcome at Little Big Horn....

Do they seem well made in your opinion Tim? I've no experience with them aside from the ones I've seen online.

Yeah, they are well made. Lets just say I would like to own one. But I can say that about a whole lot of guns!

...something intriguing about a single-shot rifle...kinda settles you down and you know you've got one shot...so do it right...this experience is with .22s....on a hunt...big one in your sights...I think it'd be the same....takes me back to Zane Grey's books where the Indian fighter has a single shot....I wouldn't buy a Ruger #1, but something like this would be fun....

I think they may be calling your name too Sheep. I need one in 45-70 but I'd also like one in .500 Magnum. So many guns and so little money.

Re: H&R Buffalo Classic 45/70

I've got one in 38-55...their "Buffalo Target", and it shoots mighty fine. The stock rear sight isn't the best though. I am toying with the idea of sending it off to have a 45-70 barrel fitted. I would mount a Leatherwood Malcolm type scope to it & see how she does.

Re: H&R Buffalo Classic 45/70

I've got the 38-55 version also. Had it for several years now. Nice rifle for the money.
And...you can get the extra barrels...both CF rifle calibers and shotgun!

Never tried the 45-70, tho....but...I bet you'll like and keep it should you buy it! SS's are a class act...
