Chance, as a mod, I can tell you, I won't let it get garbaged up. You can count on that. If you wouldn't mind, I would really like it if you would post a raffle querry in the lounge. |

JGB Can you simply delete all the cutesy stuff that has accumulated in past raffle threads? The reason I ask is what happened with BH's raffle and the need to keep starting new threads when they got taken over with crap having nothing to do with anything and made it impossible for those involved to keep track of who was in. His original idea was a good one: Two threads, one for commiting to the raffle and one for folks to play with. If we can do that and make it stick, I'm for it. |

Yes, Chance it can be done. One of us will sticky it once you post it and then anyone interested can simply post that they are. Then if enough interest is shown you can start another "official" thread with people posting that they're in.

Okay, will get things started to see if there is sufficient interest. Thanks |

Chance When the 1871 Buffalo Classic first came out from H&R 1871, we had formed a club called the Buffalo Classic Shooting Society and of course yours truely was #1 as being the originator of the group. We had shooting postal matches, from only on cross sticks that produced some very nice results. This was my rifle that boosted me into the Remington No. 1 Rolling Blocks, and 1874 Sharps design rifles. The Buffalo Classic Rifle was my first BPCR rifle as well. I used nothing but black powder, and pure lead bullets, also making my own bullet lube as well. The best rear sight that I got working for the Buffalo Classic rifle was an original 1879 Buffington ladder sight from a Springfield Trapdoor Rifle (not the cadet model) ![]() Rear sight for Springfield Trapdoor model 1879. Sometimes refered to as a "buckhorn" style. Used on Trapdoor rifles from 1874 until superseded by buffington style in 1884.Side ramps are graduated to 500 yds and the ladder to 1500 yards. Adjustable for Windage. This sight was used on the Springfield Trapdoor model, but fits the Buffalo Classic barrel very well, and when placed 6.5" out from the breech/chamber area, works great along with a front silver blade sight. At the time I purchased my sight it was available thru http://www.trackofthewolf.com But here is one available that is a bit more stream line to the conture of the barrel and over all look of the rifle. ![]() http://www.buffaloarms.com/browse.cfm/4,4191.html If I get another 45-70 from H&R 1871 it will look like this, as I'm not interested in the 32" barrel and shooting steel gongs out to 800 yards any longer. |

...actually saw an H&R single-shot at my local pawn shop yesterday with scope mount and all...looked interesting...closest I've been to one...about the length of a Trapper...if they ejected the fired shell and extracted the live one like the older shotguns...I guess you could get pretty fast at reloading it....

All H&R Handi Rifles are now made to only extract, no pop ejection like the old ones where loosing cases was common.

Unfortunately I never even shot the Buffalo Classic. Since the raffle idea came up I didn't think it would be cool to take the gun out shooting. When the who thing fell apart for lack of interest I took it to the gun show and sold it. Bad timing. I'll probably come across another one and if I do will at least shoot it. I'm with you, love the 45/70

Go for another BC and get her sighted up proper. My uncle actually put a scope on his, and loves it. He refuses to shorten the barrel as he thinks he gets better down range accuracy with it. The long 32" barrel shines when using a Smith Ladder sight or the Buffingtons, but the longer barrel part is mute when using a scope. Still trying to get him to see reason to shorting the BC down to a 26" barrel for better carry in the woods. He could even order the 22" barrel for it, but does not want to send it in to H&R for the fitting. At any rate, get another BC for yourself and have some fun. |
