H&R Buffalo Classic

This is the H&R Model 1871 Buffalo Classic I picked up 2 days ago. Very nice gun, solid 98+%, with only 5 rounds through the barrel. Those rounds were factory Buffalo Bore and about killed the poor guy who has recently had by-pass surgery. I wanted to shoot it at the range today but figured I better leave it as is since it is going to the gun show tomorrow.

Re: H&R Buffalo Classic

My 45/70 loads are WIMPS ONLY old phart loads so am able to tolorate those steel butt plates. I sure want to keep this rifle, or at least shoot it once, but it needs to go tomorrow to finance other good habits.

You sold it? That was a nice one. I wouldn't mind owning one myself.

Not sold yet. Hopefully it will go tomorrow at the gun show. Should be a big crowd even though the snowbirds haven't started landing yet. Cool temps of 100 - 105 brings out the crowds.

Re: H&R Buffalo Classic

Oh well, still have the Buffalo Classic, but did manage to sell the Stevens 32 rimfire Crack Shot. Miwall still had Win large pistol primers when the show closed at 5:00. Also still had .22 Fed and Rem bricks for the first time in a year. Vendors looked to be having a rough day as attendance was WAAAAAAY down and some of the guys said they weren't selling much. Didn't look like even the black guns were selling at the normal rate. I did find a old model Ruger Single Six 22lr cylinder in a little red bag and a XRN-Red single six grip frame. Didn't even buy one gun since everything I was interested in was grossly overpriced.

Re: H&R Buffalo Classic

We just had one here and I didn't bother. It was $8 to get in this year and last time the prices were so bad I didn't buy a single thing.

...I love the lines of that old rifle...it'd look great standin' by the door...or hangin' over it...

Re: H&R Buffalo Classic

Boy, Chance, if I reloaded for that caliber I think I'd scrounge up the $$ and send it your way. I'd never be able to shoot it without reloading for it though. I have to stop looking at it.

Re: H&R Buffalo Classic

Maybe you ought to do a raffle for it Chance. You might come out ahead.

Re: H&R Buffalo Classic

Have you shot it yet Chance? I have one in 38-55 (the target model) & outside of the rear sight I love it. I thinking of scoping it with a Leatherwood Malcom set up.

Re: H&R Buffalo Classic

Nope, haven't shot it yet but plan to put a few rounds through it Friday.

Raffle might be a neat idea. Something like 20 chances at 20 bucks each. Will give it some thought and look into the shipping aspect since I have never shipped a gun. Any thoughts/ideas/suggestions?

Re: H&R Buffalo Classic

As far as I know you can ship a long gun to an FFL. So you'd be looking at about $35 for shipping and the guy on the other end would be looking at transfer fees. 20 tickets at $20 would give you $400 - shipping. If that covers what you want for the gun, you're good to go. If it doesn't, you'd need to add a few chances. I almost nade a funny there.

Re: H&R Buffalo Classic

1st: Not sure if there would be enough interest to make it worth the effort. How many on the forum would actually lay out 20/25 bucks for a chance on a 45/70?

2nd: If I put the question over in the Lounge it would get lost or garbaged up like BH's raffle that ended up requiring multiple threads in the never ending attempt to get the job done. Unless someone has an idea how to keep all the bull shit out of a raffle thread it wouldn't be worth the hassle of trying to stay up with what was happening.

Good idea but not really practical from my vantage point.

Re: H&R Buffalo Classic

a temporary "sticky" to keep it at the top would work..........

as far as entries.......would be nice if there was a e-mail notification to members of the raffle.......don't know if that exists......sort of upload and press send to shotgun it to one and all...........not a bad idea to remind folks that we are here as well............just a friendly reminder......
