This one fills the .223 Rem itch so my uncle can have his Remington bolt action .223 Rem back.

how hard is it to "fit" the barrels yourself?

Yep, this was a toss up for either the .204 Ruger barrel or the .223 Rem bull barrel with the scope deal, and the .223 Rem barrel won out because I have alot of .223 Rem on hand to play with. But the .204 Ruger is next on the list of varmint/preditor calibers to have.

IF your over at GBO then yes we are, I am The Montanan over there dang just can't hide anywhere.

There should be a FAQ area that has information about fitting these IF there is to much material on the lug.

yup it's you, i was also looking at the 204, but i don't think it's what i'm looking for. I'm looking for an extra deer gun that maybe my kids can use.

The .243 Win or the 7mm-08 is my recomendation. The 7mm-08 does have the option of elk and moose should you desire to hunt them as well. But the .243 Win down the line might be a consideration, for its ability to use the light weight bullets for preditors

Should you choose the 7mm-08 it is a very mild recoiling rifle for men, women and young hunters/shooters.

What's the twist on that barrel JB? Mine is 1:12" and works much better with the lighter varmint bullets.

I am so glad I picked this caliber it aint even funny.

My hunting partner was surprized that I was hitting 4" clay pigons out at 157 yards.

Both of mine were made before the handi name was used.Would that make them different???I would think so...Im going to go see what mod # they are. there both at least made in the 80s.Ive had them for 20 years.Missed the biggest buck i ever seen with the 30/30.Took a branch off the tree between us.





Well I stand corrected the 270 is a N E F handi rifle,the 30/30 is a 158 H+R. how could i get confused with only a few H+R + N.E.F.

...it cries out for a clip...looks easy to carry...evidently shoots straight as it needs to...I just have trouble with a single shot...if it had an automatic ejector, that would speed things up a bit...

I don't have a problem with a single shot rifle, after all my bow is a single shot as well. If some one wants the ejectors you can find an older model H&R Handi Rifle some place like Guns America or Gun Broker. My two whitetails had no problem with the fact that mine is an extractor model

You would be surprised how fast you can reload & be back on target with a top break. I'm not sure about yours Johnny but my I think my .204 has automatic ejection. Now I want a custom barrel in 32-40 to match my 38-55 Buffalo classic

I just mailed off the check today to the guy in N.C., and as soon as he gets it my 24" .223 Bull Barrel with BSA

Well the .223 Rem BB would not marry up to my SB2 Reciever, so another guy wanted my 24" Bull Barrel and I will be happy with the trade for his .204 Ruger Bull Barrel. Now if upon getting this, it also does not fit, then I will be mailing off my reciever and the barrel to H&R 1871 to have them fitted by them for a small shipping fee.

No they don't, but it could have been because the barrel was marked Ultra on the side. Who knows, but if the 204 Ruger does not fit, then I will just send it into H&R for them to fit it. The 204 Ruger cartridge is so much better than the 223 Rem its not even funny. With the 223 Rem you do get recoil jump when fired, and with the 204 Ruger all reports indicate that you actually see your target get hit and what this little 20 cal bullet does on what it hits is awesome.

I'm not out to save even fur on coyotes but this bullet goes in and does not exit, and everything inside is toast.
