Actually, hogs and big cats were the only two things the .30-06 version seemed suited for, dangerous enough to want the second shot on tap but well handled by the cartridge. Two problems in this case, a single trigger defeats the redundancy offered by the double and doubles are regulated for just one load.

Sheepdog,
I was thinking in terms of bolt actions in the context of African dangerous game rifles. I don't think anyone would use a semiauto for that. You see bolt actions and doubles in heavy calibers. For lighter calibers for less dangerous hunting an auto, pump, or lever action might be faster. Sorry to be unclear.
