Ruger 30-30!?!?

Had a few minutes today and brought up Lipsey's website. Bein' a Ruger#1 fan, I just had to brouse the #1 list...

Was pleased to see a limited run of .257 Roberts, 6.5x55, and the "Craig Boddington" Safari series, especially the 7x57. All nicely droolable, of course!

But...darned if I didn't see...or at least thought I saw...a #1 in 30-30 Winchester! Heck it didn't register until I'd scrolled halfway down the rest of the list and then...ZOOM back '"north" on th' list and boys, there it be!

Now, I know the limitations and the intended use of that round 'bout as well as most AND I do use a Glenfield levergun periodically BUT I cannot help it, I'm frightfully hooked...now I just gotta figure out HOW....

A single shot 30/30 can be loaded with pointed bullets. I had a bolt action 30/30 many years ago that I would load with SP bullets. It was a tack driver.

...I remember bolt action .30-30s...long ago...are they that much more accurate than a levergun???

Re: Ruger 30-30!?!?

I would think that they could be with the pointed ammo. I think the 30-30 in a Ruger #1 would be cool. A great deer cartridge in a real nice gun can't be beat, imo.

The one I had was quite accurate with my reloads. The only way to mount a scope on it was with a side mount, so I never mounted a scope to it. It would do 1 1/2 to 2 inch groups with iron sights at 100 yards consistently. Of course, I was a lot younger then, doubt if I could do it now.

...the rifle itself is a work of art...I've held two or three...any caliber would be a joy to own...they are just too dog-goned expensive!!!

OK I am late what is new, I agree sheepdog if I am going to spend that kind of money I am not having in 30-30 And 7X57 is a supper round its not cheap to shoot unless you reload for it.

Ruger made a 30-30 in number #3 and didn't sell well . A 308 win or 30-06 in a number #1 are a better round in that gun . If you must have a 30-30 in a single shot TC make it in Contender and Encore , which are 1/2 the price of a Ruger #1 .

Re: Ruger 30-30!?!?

I built 3 number 3 for matches . A tight neck 30-30 for cast bullets only . Shot a 200 gr cast fixed ammo . another one was a oct barrel 45-70 for long range black powder and the 3rd one is my 32-40 breach seater which is the only one I kept . I'm going to put it up 4 sale , I can't hold it up anymore

11 lbs 10oz with scope . The trigger I designed . It is adjustable from 8 oz to 4 lbs without disassembing gun . A twist of a allen wrench I can go from offhand gun to benchrest gun , also sear engagement is adjustment is made without disassembling gun . Both adjustments are made at trigger with allen wrench making this a good bench gun or offhand gun too in less then 1 min .
