Ruger 77/50 problem

Have a 77/50 muzzle loader. For some reason, when I close the bolt with the safety off, the striker will not stay back, but closes. Never done this before. I think the sear is not holding it back for some reason. If I leave the safety on, it stays back, but am afraid of loading it, flicking the safety off, and it going off. I contacted Ruger, and am awaiting their answer, but was just wondering if anyone else has had this problem? According to the manual, Ruger wont sell me a new sear, I have to send the gun back, but deer season is only 3 weeks away, and I know they wont fix it that quick!

don't have a clue.......

i'd not load it but just cap it and work the bolt and see what happens....if she touches off and you tell ruger that, they will probably send a label and pay for the shipping back.

That is how I found out it was not working! Capped it, closed the bolt, and bang. Scared the crap out of me. Of course, it was pointed in a safe direction, and not loaded, but still.
