Best 1911

OK, here is a poll that I can't put Ruger in! Who you guys think makes the best 1911? I am gonna put "for the money" on this one too, as some of the high end makers make some fine guns, but $2K and $3K for a handgun is a bit out of my league. My vote on this one goes to Kimber. Tell you why. Kimber did more to transform the 1911 platform, and bring it to more people, than any other maker. Before Kimber, if you wanted a decent 1911 that would feel everything you put through it, with extended beaver-tails, ambi safeties, or any other thing other than stock, it was a gunsmith or do it yourself proposition. Kimber changed all that, and other makers took notice and started doing the same.

SA! I own 2 and wouldn't trade them for any other 1911's. Tough, reliable, and the customer service can't be beat!

Re: Best 1911

Although I own a Kimber and love it, "for the money" I said Springfield.

Re: Best 1911

i guess here purty quick we can add ruger to the list........

i have shot colts more than any other 1911...........but from limited experience thanks to my brother-in-law, probably the most refined, best shooting 1911 that i have ever had the pleasure of using for two afternoons.....shooting someone else's ammo....has been a kimber.........and i shot the hound out of it....good thing he is a reloader.....

he also has a 40 cal kimber 1911...........which also turns out to be the most accurate 40 cal pistol i have ever shot.

hard to explain...........but the kimber just seemed "right" and i shot better with that one kimber than any other brand 1911 i have tried to date.

Shame he is so much younger than me...........i know i won't be around to get it in his will....

I surely like my Kimber and would shoot it more but with the arthritus in my hands can't disassemble it for cleaning, even my sone had a hard time and he's a big one, that's why I got the P226 Sig, very easy to strip!
