I did a gun deal,a Winchester 190 like new sold for $100 and a glenfield 75 to boot. He brings out the 75 and we pass it around between 3 of us in the driveway.. 3 days later i load the clip to try it out and when i went to work the bolt it jams. A spent shell in the barrel. I'm thinking of giving my self a bounty hunter.(time out). I gave everyone who was there hell also. 1 guy was my pupil who I've been teaching to shoot and how to handle guns SAFELY. |

Doesn't take but once to ruin your life. Even when I am at work, and showing somebody a gun, I always check the gun. If they give it back, then ask to see it again, I check it again. No matter how many times I show it, and I know it is empty, I still check it. My boss is the worlds worst for not checking. One of the other guys that has worked there a long time tells me a story of a gun the boss bought off a guy he knew real well, and put it out for sale. The guy I work with was showing it, racks the slide back, and a live round comes out of the chamber. I trust no one but myself when it comes to checking to see if they are loaded or not.

Don't be so hard on yourself, JW, view it as an object lesson. Everyone there learned something. Sometimes the spirits think you're not paying attention and they whack you a bit just to bring you back in line. Molon Labe Kim |

Thanks for this post JW..... It should really be in some form of a 'sticky'. I always check... But when I hear of someone like you having one get past them like this.... It really makes me think! Safety is everything in what we do. |
