I think I may have mentioned this already, but we got a SR1911 in at work (finally!) I was the first to get to fondle it. Seems to be a well made gun, and my first impressions are very positive. All that being said, and as long as I have waited for this, I got to say I was a bit underwhelmed. After all, it is just another 1911, only it has Ruger on the side of it. As I am a big Ruger fan, and a big 1911 fan as well, I thought I would get a bigger kick out of it than I have. Guess I am just getting too old, and too jaded from working in a gun shop. Boss offered it to me for $629, but as I have two on lay a way still, I told him I would wait. As we have a waiting list for them, he will have no problem selling it (normal price will be $698). I will more than likely buy one some day. Maybe. Honestly, I have a full size Colt, and my Kimber Ultra Carry. I just really can't justify this one.

...given Ruger's performance of late, I wouldn't buy one for a year...maybe more...I'd get a SA Mil-Spec SS before I'd buy the Ruger...my brand loyalty is gone for them on anything made after the P90,95,97, and the SP and GP...time may prove this one is sound and serviceable...but it won't be on MY time...

Well, personally, I would much rather have the USA made Ruger, than the Brazilian made SA. The SA I used to own was a decent gun, but I have seen their quality go down some too of late. Our RO bought one of the over $1000 9mm that had to be sent back as soon as he bought it. Wouldn't feed worth a crap. All they had to do was replace the link, as they apparently installed the wrong one, but still. We just go a brand new one in this week that was scratched pretty good too. Any maker can put a bad one out now and then. As Ruger has been making 1911 frames for years now, I honestly don't for see any problems with this model.

Yep, dirt in the face might stop me from wanting guns too, but I wouldn't bet on it. |

Every gun I buy is my last one.

I'd go with the Ruger before the Taurus or RIA myself.
