PM Mararov

any opinions out there about the makarov pistol.........?

i have been looking at one which sort of flies in the face of my revolver standards..........but the more i look at one and shoot one, the more i actually like them.

there are still plenty of bulgarian models out there.......the magazines look to appear to be the indestructable com-block style, the gun breaks down like a walther and is flat and concealable though a bit heavy.......and i actually like that heel/mag release being a lefty as i am sick and tired of magazines being accidently ejected on autos that do not have a reversible mag release.

ammo is still relatively inexpensive............and i do not really care for HP in the 380/9x18 ammo class and prefer fmj for penetration on serious social occasions.........

look like a lot of positives..............

The only one I ever owned was a Russian made one chambered in .380. It was a good little gun.

Re: PM Mararov

My father had a 9mm years ago. I don't know if he ever shot it or even where he got it. It's probably indestructable, but might be hard to find mags. Some of them imports are like that. Last I knew they were real cheap too. That's always a plus.

Re: PM Mararov

guessing about 10 or 15 years back they were around $120 retail..................nowadays i guess the secret is out or they are drying up as the retail i have been seeing is $250 and up for the bulgarian........the east germans are way high.........

dang it...if we gots to trade with china, why not allow the importion of the makarovs, tokerovs, and those norinco 1911's and sks rifles...........as it currently stands, all we can import from china are shotguns...............now that flat plain flies in the face of all this so-called "free trade".......................

Re: PM Mararov

For $250 and up, I think I'd go with another brand with the Luger round. That's what I paid for my like new P95 with box, papers, and 3 magazines.

Re: PM Mararov

Well it would depend on what the price was. I'd hate to lose a $250 gun as much as I'd hate to lose any gun I think. You could probably find a used Glock 9mm for around $300. There was a kid in my local recently looking to sell one for $300. I think it was the Gen 3. If I had had the cash on me I would have snagged it. He was telling a friend in there about it. The shop wouldn't give him that much for it, so he was looking for a private sale. I paid $400 for Gen 2 G19. Perfect carry size.

Re: PM Mararov

I don't either. I like the Gen 2 and 3. The 4's are iffy with me.

Re: PM Mararov

I like the Gen 3 Glocks, not so sure I'd want a Gen 4.

In regards to the Makarovs I've never owned one but have only ever heard good things about them from people who do have them.
