I have seen at my LGS a stainless older Browning HP. It needs some TLC. I also want to add a S&W revolver to my collection, cause I do not have one. What should I do?? Help me out and Thanks.

Imagine how much better your back will feel if you don't have to bend over and pick up all that brass. Which Smith are you considering? I like the variety in calibers they have in their revolvers.

Well I have a couple of HPs and a large basket of S&Ws but questions are involved here, Stainless ? not nickle? Which Smith? they can be a lot cheaper than an HP. I can't pass an older "N" frame and the run about + to an HP. but you could get 2 model 10 Smiths for the price of an HP. If the hP was cheaper than to S&W 10s Id buy it |

One of the 329PD's has a 44 mag in a 25 oz revolver. Shoot that baby with full power loads and your nose starts running. Actually the 629 is one nice revolver. |

Actually, I'd get a Redhawk if I went .44 mag, I believe it is better with recoil; but, I cheated and got a Hogue monogrip because the point of the rosewood grips dug into my hand..

I'll bet it's a nickle plated HP.

I like the Browning Hi Powers. I've never heard of a Stainless HP. I'll bet it's a satin nickel or electroless Nickel like Colt had. I like the older Smith revolvers. If you want a 44 mag I'd go with the Redhawk that will hold up allot better then the Smith's.

There is a company in FLA that makes frames and slides in SS for building a custom High Power. They are expensive. I doubt you would see a build of this type sold for $500.

I still havent given up on the BHP. Here is what it looks like ( not actual pic) but the same except for some scratches all over that can be fixed with some TLC or use as a beater. |

i believe that is chrome type finish in that two-tone from the factory..........i have seem them as factory new in a two-tone and a complete dull chrome finish back in the 90's. either way, under $500 on a factory browning in great shape........i'd jump all over it if i could. the high power is my favorite semi-auto full size 9mm. www.cdnninvestments.com has been selling browning hipowers in polish blue and matt finish.......somewhere around $700 new if i remember correctly. as much as i like revolvers, in this case, i would go with the hi power...... used smiths are more plentiful.. and for the hi power lover.......a great info page......... http://www.hipowersandhandguns.com/HiPowerComments.html Last edited by deputy125; 01-10-2012 at 08:53 AM. |

If the Frame has the FN/Browning legends on it that is satin chrome. As much as I like the HP, and that would be a good price for one in very good condition, if the satin nickle is badly scratched it would be unrepairable/restoreable cosmetically, without refinishing and that will add $$$ if you want it "nice" Browning did make a few aluminium frames for the Belgian police but they were anodized an not rated for +P ammo. to look like that it would have had to be stripped and refinished. So you would have a gun with no colletors value that couldn't/shouldn't be fired with a lot of available ammo. However I do remember seeing that two tone blue over satin nickle in the Browning Catalog Last edited by countrygun; 01-10-2012 at 09:08 AM. |

I bought a used BHP from a friend way back. It was his late father's gun. Months after I got it I noticed a little pitting on the back of the trigger guard. Apparently it was reblued which they did a great job on it except for the minor pitting. I had another BHP Parkerized years ago. It looked great. I'd like to get this one done but they've gone crazy pricewise. It's light pitting and I know the Parkerizing would take care of that issue.

While I worked at the GS I picked up a Tangent sight BHP 9mm. We had a bunch of them upstairs he wasn't selling to the general public. The owner of the GS said if you're going to buy one get the TS model which I did. Years later I bought and I stupidly traded it. A BHP Export model chambered in 30 Luger. Beerman that was my bad. | |
