the LH curse definately applies here.....

there was another thread going on about LH bolts.......never liked them as i was accustomed to RH bolts.

But i will tell you a short story of where an ambi or LH rifle will apply to me and that is with semi-autos.........that just got re-enforced strongly this afternoon.

I had taken a marlin/glenfield model 60 to the range to test function along with an old glenfield RH bolt 22. Things were going fine as i was just doing a bit if target practice with them.

The marlin model 60 is a nice tubular fed .22 semi. They have made them for decades and they are a fairly reliable .22......i have shot a model 60 off and on for years and never had any issues with one as a lefty. This is generally good news as a winchester auto and an old savage/stevens auto are particularly not LH friendly with either the brass or blow-back hitting me in the face when shot off of the left shoulder.

anyways, all was going well and the model 60 was just a singing along......until something happened. On one shot, suddenly i see sparks and i was hit on the right side of my face and in the eye with something......i am guessing it was blow-back along with residue/brass fragments. Like an idiot, i did not have shooting glasses on but fortunately i was doing some presicision shooting and had the right eye closed at the time of the shot. This was down right painful. I checked around for the offending brass but did not find it amongst the many on the ground. I then inspected the rifle and it had chambered the next round. Shooting from the right hip i emptied the rifle and she functioned ok.

This was around 5 hours back.......my eye is a tad swollen and feels like there is pressure in and around it.

Its a good lesson not to blow off the glasses and another good example of murphy's law........the bad part here is i can not even pin it down to a certain brand of ammo. This was just scrounged ammo that i was getting rid of.......stuff that has been bouncing around in the pickup for a year and a mix match of winchester, cci, federal, and remington that i kept in an old cci 100 ct box.
.......i'm gonna run 50 rds thru the marlin again tomorrow afternoon (with glasses) and some shelved ammo and if all is well i am going to give it to my boy for Christmas......with the glasses......and chaulk this up as a fluke.

LH hand autos in .22.........don't even know if they exist. i do know browning has that beautiful bottom ejection rifle but that costs a ton so i am just going to stick with the RH bolts from here on out unless i run across a nice savage/stevens single shot.

i ain't got no choice with that issued m16-a1....but i got that giant defelector on it.

The only ones I can think of are Stag Arms AR-15s.

...Dep, Rem made in the 70s a 552 Speedmaster with a factory ejection deflector that might work for you...also another...with an angled deflector...not near as pretty as the Speedmaster...

There are left handed uppers for the ar's and your department should be able to get you one with the federal money other there. At least you can ask about them getting you one. They just drop in they have them here in gatesville if your in my neck of the woods, stop in and ask about them.
