Ruger announces new AR in 6.8 SPC

We are pleased to announce the new Ruger® SR-556® in 6.8 SPC, a new chambering in the popular SR-556® two-stage, piston-driven, AR-Style rifle. The new SR-556 in 6.8 SPC brings the power and downrange authority of the 6.8 SPC cartridge in a two-stage piston rifle that runs cooler and cleaner than traditional gas-driven, AR-style rifles.

Packaged with one five-round magazine and two twenty-five round magazines, the SR-556 in 6.8 SPC is an ideal hunting rifle for those who appreciate the versatility of the customizable and ergonomic AR-style platform. The 6.8 SPC has ample power for hunting medium-sized game, and the greater muzzle and downrange energy enhances the capability of the SR-556 in defensive or tactical roles as well.

The SR-556 in 6.8 SPC retains all the features of the original SR-556 that make it an outstanding value in the AR-style rifles.

that 6.8 spc round is sure impressive for what it does and fitting into the ar std package...........

kind of makes one think why the military don't "upgrade" in caliber/punch and they can stay with the m-16 format since they seem to like it.

The 6.8 is a great round imo. Great for hunting or self defense.

I guess because they had tons of ammo and switching over would really cause a major supply problem. Of course that wasn't the case when the M16 came along seems like. But I really think it would give our troop a major boost in fire power, its in the same for mate as you said deputy and there wouldn't be any or much need for re training at all.
Of curse it could be that they don't have enough cleaning kits for them right I understand now.

I can buy a 223 Colt and then get a 6.8 upper for it for less. I had that set up and then sold the upper.

Re: Ruger announces new AR in 6.8 SPC

Your right pal, I have been saying it for a few years now Ruger is a dollar short and a day late. There more Ruger shot at the cowboy matchs than any other pistol. They could have made the rifles and shotguns to boot and would have cornered the mark so to speak. Nope not them. Now they come up with this high dollar ar. For that amount of money I can get an M1A and that will dang sure do more than the 6.8 ever thought about doing. Well their still in business and they are still an American company so there're doing something right, just what it is I can't put my finger on it.

I'd buy an M1A first too, Snuffy.
