different uppers for Ar's

At my local gun shop that only I know where its at lol they have several uppers for an ar 7.62X39 and the 6.8 of course thety have the lowers also. I was thinking about the 7.62X39 but for what they want for the upper I can get an SKS cheapper. Just thinking not sure if I will do anything.

Snuffy, you have a lower? If you really like the AR platform then get the upper. It takes 2 seconds to change out the upper and you have a familiar gun that shoots a different caliber. The 7.62x39 is usually a lot cheaper than the 223, so it makes good ammo to practice with. Hell it makes good ammo to fight the bad guys too!

Re: different uppers for Ar's

I was thinking the same thing, but I can get an SKS cheaper. They look like crap, but right now I guess I'll just think about it for a while and see what I come up with. I know they say that 7.62X39 is a real killer on hogs, but since people around here want you to pay to hunt hogs on thier land I wouldn't know lol.
But your point is well taken and your right about cheap ammo, thanks for your help.

The SKS is a fine gun and some of them have super looking wood . I convert them to take the AK47 mag . So I vote for another gun and not a upper and you can NEVER have too many cowboy guns .

Re: different uppers for Ar's

Taking everything into account and listening or reading each post. And taking into account where I do my most shooting, I have decided to trade off my Sig 226 and mags and ammo for 2 brand new Ruger Bisley Vaquerio's in 45 stainless steel 5 1/2 barrels. I am going to send them off to Lassater and have a complete action job plus have them engraved by him. This sure isn't going to be cheap to do this but its something that I really want. The six guns I am using now are used and have had some problems with them, I broke them both and had to have them fixed. I have a back up shotgun and rifle but no back up in the six department.
I have plenty of guns tohunt with and shotguns to hunt with and do I hunt nope. Thanks to all that post and all idea's and thoughts were good points.

Now that is the best idea yet ...... I will love to see them when you get them back , but I will be dead and buried before you get them back ...

I have no personal experience with the uppers in 7.62x39, but I hear from others that that round is tempermental in ARs. Hard to get them to run right.
