A 20 and a 12 shooting the same mass of shot at roughly the same velocity you might expect to kick the same. But the 12 gun is probably heavier and would absorb more recoil so you would expect it to kick less. As to pattern, shot column is a contributor. So with the same mass of shot, the 12 would have a shorter and larger diameter shot column. You might expect the 12 to pattern larger and more evenly in this case. This is why I like a 28 over a .410. Better pattern - with a light gun and manageable recoil. All that is naturally my humble opinion.
To me fit of the gun is also a major factor in mitigating felt recoil. With proper fit the gun is not slamming your cheek or whatever the byproduct is of a poor fit. Obviously amount of shot and weight of the gun are in the mathematical calculation of recoil and the fit is an intangible that will potentially cause two different opinions on the same gun and load.

That was why I put a hi vis bead on my 870 supermag. For turkey I aim for the head. When shooting claybirds with the Red Label I just look where I want to shot to go, follow with my eyes and don't even register the sight. Where I look is where the shot winds up as long as I keep my head down and keep swinging.

Sa-08

Just joined here, and this is an older post. But, if still around, I'll post this. My friend bought his granddaughter an SA-08 20ga. She just loves shooting it for trap and shooting clays. Ruby is mighty good with this gun, so, these go highly recommended from her's and other reports.

I know I am coming in late on this thread.
Just picked up a Weatherby SA-08 28 Gauge. See my post under the Gun Pictures thread.
So far I have found it to be a very nice shotgun. It is the first 28 gauge I have owned and shot.
It is made in Turkey and has a Walnut Stock. I took mine apart and put the mic's on the parts. They all measured the same. Who ever did the CNC machining was spot on that day. Great little gun.
