Nobody like shotguns anymore?

Okay, no action for over a month here. A week ago I picked up a neat little Iver Johnson .410 Champion single shot with jacketed breach and26 inch bbl made sometime between 1912 and 1918. The jacketed breach was designed to handle heavier loads avaliable for waterfowl at the time.

Took it with us to the desert yesterday and what a fun gun to shoot. 410s are without a doubt my favorite shotguns. Too bad the shells are so expensive. Am on the lookout for a double barrel one.

You got it Sheepdog. Anybody can shoot right handed but it takes real skill to do it with the left hand and eye.

Here's a pic of Grandma Chance with her "baby"

Actually that is a S&W 916A, the shotgun that about put S&W in the toilet. Seems they were good or, most likely, bad. This is a good one that has served us well for many years and gone bang everytime we asked it to. We take it to the desert a couple of times a year for function checks but mostly it resides in the bedroom.

Very nice, I love those little single shots. Looks like the two of you had fun.

Re: Nobody like shotguns anymore?

That's a neat little .410 Chance.

Time to start reloading shotgun shells too...I can reload up a box of .410 shells for about $3 a box. When you only put in a 1/2 oz of shot, it takes a while to get through a 25 lb bag.

Plus, you probably already have the powder...H110 or W296 makes great .410 shells.

Re: Nobody like shotguns anymore?

i love them old single shot shotguns........

i am short one now as my boy came thru and i sent him home with a 12 ga h&r along with a few other goodies.......he's young enough to tolerate the recoil in such a light weight 12......so i also gave him a box of "oo"...........he tried it......and quicky stated a recoil pad was now a priority..........

well, at least i was not so cruel as to give him 3" buck mag federals i keep on hand.........

one thing about some of them older singles...........some of them actually came with purty good walnut stocks.............
