Spent the last 2 days at the big 3 day PHX gun show. Sold some stuff and had some change rattling around in the pocket and and figured this would be a good time to get that SxS I have wanted since I was a kid. Finally found a Savage Springfield 20 ga in my price range and after some heavy negotiations became a proud owner. Since it has a 28 in bbl it will probably need to be sent to BH to be shortened but other than that it is a pretty good "first one". It has a slip on recoil pad and when I took it off to look under it found there is no butt plate. That will need to be replaced and the stock and forearm are the cheap wood and will probably be refinished. Can't wait to shoot it. |

...I've only seen a coupla 411s...don't know why Savage and Stevens both made basically the same gun (411 and 311)...I'd like to find either...one in 12 and one in 20...got plenty of pumps but there's something wonderful about a short-barrelled two-holer!!! Great find....

I think the SxS shot guns are some of the best looking rifles made. The barrels do need to be about 20" though, Chance. |

Those guns are well made and certainly have appeal. If you're gonna shorten the barrels for social work, well, that'll be impressive enough. But...if you're gonna hunt with it...and you don't like the current chokes ( most 28" fixed are MOD and FULL ) you can have the barrels threaded or reduced in length and then threaded for screw-in chokes. I've had that done and, if you're using the gun, it's worth it and it's generally less expensive than gettin' another SG. Regardless of what you do, tho', congrats on your double...SxS shotguns are a "class act", pure n' simple! Oh, yeah, and be forewarned..."possession" of a SxS WILL lead to an "addiction!" |
