I just picked up a full choke from my local used for $5. It reads, 2-BB steel and all lead. That means I can shoot #2 and BB shot in steel and everything lead including slugs? I just picked up some Winchester 1-1/8 ounce slugs. Slugs ain't cheap. $8 for 5. |

You can shoot slugs through it, but your accuracy will probably suffer. The tight choke will squeeze the very soft lead and distort the out side "rifling" on the slug itself.

What choke should I use for the slugs? Sheepdog, Walmart only carries the 2.75" shells here. I don't know why. |

Mod or Improved Cylinder are your best bets for slugs... Use I.C. if you're going to be using the gun indoors for protection...or shooting at flying things closer up. (Like skeet targets) Mod works best for an all around choke...works well for indoors and works well for shooting at slightly longer distance flying things. (Like trap targets) Full works best for shooting at critters on the ground where you have a little more time to line your shot up and for shooting at ducks and geese where you might get some really high fliers. Extra Full or Turkey...Really only good for hunting. But it does a really nice job with that. |

This is strictly a hunting gun. I have my shorter one for the house. That has no choke now. I have the turkey choke for turkey, fox, and coyote, and I'll look into a modified for the slugs. I thought full was what I wanted for slugs. Oh well, the full will allow me to shoot some steel if I want to. |

Steel is useless. It's like loading a hull with airsoft pellets. I think ducks get a pleasurable tickling sensation from steel. Tungsten and bismuth are nice, and bismuth can be used on older barrels. But lead has some sort of magical killing property that cannot be explained by math and science. I don't know why, it just works better. |

I agree with JGBoom . Never shoot slugs in any choke tighter than Mod. Skeet, cyl or Imp cly is best. From experience ,I split one barrel on an old SxS with a slug. That gun is now 5 inches shorter. An other choice is a rifled bl. |

I got an improved last weekend. I'll try some slugs out in it when I get a chance. |
