Re: I Also Drank The Remington Koolaid

I was told it could crack the barrel. Plus the slug will deform and it won't fly for crap.

Re: I Also Drank The Remington Koolaid

...I've heard that, too...but 50-60 feet out...still hit well and never saw a cracked barrel...I'm gonna do some research on that...

...oops... http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index ... 148AAZPxy9

...this is enough for me...whacked or cylinder bore only from now on!!!

Re: I Also Drank The Remington Koolaid

I ran another 25 rounds of 00 Buck through it today. That little 12 gauge is getting addictive, I'm even liking (weirdo that I am) the recoil. For an up-close-and-personal SHTF gun, this little shotty is a beauty.

...unless you have to make a precise shot...i.e. hostage situation, the pump shotgun and buckshot will handle it...even then, from an 18" barrel...a slug will do it most times...

Re: I Also Drank The Remington Koolaid

Personally if I shoot steel shot or slugs I use only use extended chokes that choke outside the barrel . Here one that is rifled

...gunrunner, I've never seen those...they work off an inside thread? would that short a surface actually put a spin on a slug???

Re: I Also Drank The Remington Koolaid

It doesn't take much spin to stabilize a shotgun slug. Early rifles often had very slow or even straight rifling. Before the Nitro Express cartridges took over for dangerous game there was a line of doubles called Paradox Rifles. They were large caliber, 8 bore was common and even 4 bore were used, and were smooth bored except for the last part of the barrels which was rifled. They were designed to be used with shot against thin skinned game like big cats or with ball or bullet against heavier animals like elephant. All the ones I've seen or heard of were doubles as they were for African big game.

Re: I Also Drank The Remington Koolaid

With high velocity projectiles or elongated bullets you might get stripping if you do it but for short projectiles at modest range you don't need much.

Re: I Also Drank The Remington Koolaid

A round ball doesn't really need spin to stabilize it like an elongated projectile. The spin is to prevent random off axis spinning that would cause different air velocities on different sides of the ball and make it curve like a curve ball in baseball. It doesn't take much. I think 1 turn in 48" was common. Been too long to be sure.

Gunrunner would know more.

Re: I Also Drank The Remington Koolaid

50 cal ML 1 turn in 48 will stabilize slug from 80 to 100 + grs of 2F and round ball need to kept around 80 grs max of 2F . 1 turn in 66 or 72 is best for round ball only and will handle 50 grs for target to 120 grs of 2F for hunting . 1 turn in 21 to 32 is best for sabots and best with modern black powder sub's .
