New to me 20 ga.

Well I saw a 20 ga. wing master vent rib it was new and had never been shot. no fire ring no wear marks on the mag tube. Had to have it and the man wanted a 16 ga take down. And I knew some who had one lol. Anyhow I made the trade the action was ruff like they are whne they are new she is smoothed up now. I am told she was made in 62 but I am in doubt about that, she had plastic triger guard. I am thinking she was made in the early 80's myself. Also the follower is blue steel, my first one had a chrome follower and an aluminum. Guess I need to see if I can get and invite to a dove hunt this year lol.

Good for you, Snuffy. I don't have any 20 gauge shot guns. I've only owned 12's, but am thinking about a 20.

...a 20 ga. pump is excellent for home defense...anyone 7 or larger, boy or girl, can easily control it...and it will do the job with buck or slugs...

Re: New to me 20 ga.

Thanks ya'll as time has gone on and I have gooten older I have found that I am more a fan of the 20 ga than I use to be. I trade and got my son a Browning double when he was just born, I have taken this little gun to the field many times and each have limited out on dove long before anyone else came close. Normal shells to dove kills are 2 shells to one dove and some times 3 if your luck isn't running very good. With the 20 ga seems like I run around 1 1/2 shels to one dove One box of 20 ga and I can bring home 12 dove and still have shells left over. Never able to do that with a 12 ga. Also if your doing alot of walking type hunting the 20 will do just as good if not better over dogs as a 12. This shotgun is made on the 12 gauge fram so its going to be a little heavier than one made ofn the 20 gauge from. But the 2 to 3 boxs of shell in 20 ga weight alot less that the 12's. Its a trade off you put out less shot by far with the 20 than the 12 , but if you pick and choose your shots you will bring home more game. Still have the energy to hold the lady of the house in your arms and be a much happeir camper. Just my out take on the 20. Oh trust me I was in my younger days the 12 was King and will always be King. But ya know it really suchs to those 12 ga boys when ya put shoot them at the skeet range with your punnie 20 lol. After all ya only have to break the bird right. But when ya turn the bird to dust over their breaking the bird they do have a sour look on their face lol.
Johnny, I looked up the shotgun on that site you gave me and nothing came up so I am thinking it was made after 72. Still it was a good trade I am happy and so it he so that works. The gun doesn't have screw in chokes which is a plus to me I may check into getting a full choke barrel for it if the price is right, they are hard to come by these days.
What a weekend I have had, been out in the heat the last two days shooting a match did real good the first day took first place and shot clean, had two miss's yesterday one rifle and one pistol still took first place. My rank points were 78 the first day and 77 the second day. Gee I guess I am getting a little better lol. I am in the low 40 and high 30s seconds that is. Long way from where I use to be in the 100's lol. I only use one hand on the pistols not the two hand hold many use. I figure the cowboys of the oldened days used one had and I want to shoot like they did, plus I have to cock my shotgun each time I shoot it. Classic Cowboy is the hardest category to shoot but to me its the most rewarding. When you take first place or just place then you have realy earned it.
Ok ok, I high jacket my own post lol.

Re: New to me 20 ga.

Thanks pal, I am also using different shotshells as well. I first starter using Winchester feather lites. And they are ok but you have to be pretty much dead on with a shotgun knock down to get them to fall. Plus they are dirt shooting as well. So I tired some Remington Nitro 27's love them plus they shuck out of the shotgun faster than the feather lites. I shot some of the Remington sts yesterday. They are said to be 100 fps slower than the 27's to me the recoil was the same. Same price, both are after tax's $.54 more than the feather lites, and I don't have to hunt to find them either.
Extra plus keeps folks wanting to borrow shells, I always have a box or two of shall we say HOT loaded shells for the ones that always need to borrow shells. It only takes once and they don't come back to borrow.

Re: New to me 20 ga.

Thanks men, my first ever shotgun was a wing master in 12 2 3/4 shell mod choke. Of course as luck would have it I trade it to my dad and he got in a bind and needed money so he sold it. I had another 870 in 3 mag. had to have that mini 14 so I traded it was going to buy back the 870 the shop sold it before I could get back pay day. So this one is staying home for sure lol.
