more to the point........the pump line. every once in a while i will run across a high standard police riot and they are about one slick gun. Same goes for the higgins bird guns as well. i've noticed that the forend has only one action bar instead of a dual set-up like 870's. But the actions are so slick you can almost grab the gun by the rear stock and shuck it........they are that smooth. And to be honest, the only time i've runned across a broken action slide bar was on an ancient "Nobel" shotgun. Also the high standards i've seen do not have a trigger dis-connect so one could do the "charles bronson" with them and just hold the trigger down and keep pumping............. Been seeing the high standard "Sears and Roebuck" version called j.c. higgins popping up here and there. Usually with some variation of a lyman cutts compensator on them and with the old lyman version of screw in chokes. Most seem to have very decent wood and the guns are absolutely one of the slickest actions i've ever felt in a pump.........don't know it that is from design, years of service, or a combination of both. Steel receiver, metal trigger guards, walnut stocks.......built the right way.......just wondering about the general design. From a little research, the "higgins" was in the sears line-up till replaced by the "ted williams" name in the 60's with the TW line produced by winchester. I thought about taking a chance on a higgins one of these years since there seems to be no collector interest and cutting one down to riot size. Most of what i've read seems to be positive about high standards in police service...........figure a higgins chop job would be a bargin. Anyone have any experience with the high standard/higgins pump guns? These higgins are the model 20 which translates into a high standard model 200....................i believe the same basic action as the high standard Flite King? |

The 2 guns i got of my dads were J C Higgins bolt 12g shotgun and a Marlin 81 22cal. Over the years I have rescued several of each and recycled them back into hands of people who needed a gun and had low budgets. Mine were stolen in 1974 in a brake in while i was on vacation. By a BIL of mine.. I have 2 of each here now,but never owned a pump but have one 0n save list on G/B with a 20" barrel if you want to see it ill dig it up???? 12g i think it is..Its under sears or JC HIGGINS one of the 2.I don't watch High standard or flite king stuff. Don't know why.... |

Th' old J.C.Higgins model 20 pump was built like a rock! And...you still stumble over a really nice one now n' then, usually at a very reasonable price. If I'm not mistaken, the M 20 had a silver-colored badge-shaped shield inlaid in the toe(?) of the stock, so that the owner could add his/her initials, if desired... Had a couple of other Higgins-marked guns over th' years, and all were excellent. |
