While I am doing this I am also going to cut some of the butt stock off. I have it marked to take 5/8 and 1 inch off the stock not sure which I will do just yet I will have to waitr and see how thick the pad tturns out to be. Then I will make the cut drill new holes for the recoil pad and sand her down to the stock put my leather back on and I will be good to go. I use to take my shotguns and rifles to a gunsmith well he calls him self one lol. but if he puts the recoil pad on he just takes the old butt plate off and puts the recoil pad on. Making the gun long than it came from the factory. Plus I had to wait until he was in the mood to do it. So one day we were just taqling and I asked the gun smith just how he put a recoil pad on? he told me just take the butt plate off. Put masking tape on the stock at least 3 tapings and then sand it down to fit. I made a trip to Harbor Frieght got a belt sander for $25.00 out the door ( they were having a sale that day) ran home and went to work. First one turned out great. I have since got a 4 inch belt sander with a 6 inch disc sander. Now I do my own, I have saved enough from paying him to pay for the sanders and almost pay for the Dewalt power Mitter saw I have now. I use to say I can't do that bull roar I can too and have. |

I've never done one. I don't really shoot anything that would require one I guess. My biggest rifle caliber is 308. If I do decide to put one on anytime soon, I'll try it just like you say, Snuffy. |

SASS shotguns need to be 1" shorter in the pull than a normal field gun so if was going to cover it with leather I would just leave the recoil pad off and if you go hunting with it , I would put the pad back on . I couldn't shoot my shotguns without the gell pad even with the puss loads I loaded up . 12ga 3/4 oz with 12 grs of Unique [ 23 grs of Unique is normal with 1 1/8 oz of shot ]. ![]() If you notice the pad have 2 different angles on them . That was done to adjust SS to shoot POA . Both guns have a slight roll on pad to square it up with my shoulder . |

It's one inch shorter than it was with the recoil pad on. If the leather is louse fitting the pad should still work right? |

Remenber winter time you have more and thicker stuff on . The pull on my SS is a 1/2" shorter then my pump . I shorten the wood without the pad and fire it to get the correct lenght for that gun . Then I cut the pad thickness out and installed pad when I get the length that works best for me . I hope that make sense to you . I do the same thing with my lever guns , which takes care of short stroke problems ..... Remember it is better to be tad too short then too long on pumps and lever guns . |

I really don't need muchin the way of reduced recoil. But I thank I am going realy like this set up. I'll just have to wait until I go to a match and see how it works. I did save the cut of piece as I can always put that back on if I need too. How ever I don't think I will. |

I have a bad shoulder and is recoil sensitive . So I took it off the gun . I don't know why it did it just did . I put the cover on a gun with reg recoil pad and I didn't notice any difference . |

In the pic I'm wear a 1/4 thick Past gel pad since they wouldn't let you put recoil pads on ML. It is covered with super soft leather thinner then a tee shirt ... http://www.midwayusa.com/viewproduct/?p ... ber=680235 |
