Ruger Customer Service

Seen lots of bad reports of Ruger customer service lately. I have always had great luck with them, and here is another guy that has too:

http://www.theboxotruth.com/docs/edu115.htm

Most of the bad reports I have heard where on the perfectunion.com site. It is basically a Mini 14 site, and lots of the guys there seem to have a problem with Ruger CS. BUT, most of them modify their guns, and then when they screw up, and have to send them back to Ruger, Ruger will replace any modified parts with factory parts. This is due to the fact that Ruger gets sued more than anybody else, as they have more money than most any other gun company. They also complain that Ruger wont sell many parts, such as bolts and such. Ruger wont sell anything like that, as they have to make sure everything is OK when installed, that it headspaces correctly, etc.

Re: Ruger Customer Service

Twice they sent me parts still waiting on one and one time had to send the gun back. Of course one person questioned the ammo I was using when I told them the pawl broke again not onn the same gun but a different gun. I had to send that one back. They did pay shipping both ways and it was back. I haven't fired that one yet as I want it to last more than 6 weeks.

Re: Ruger Customer Service

Snuffy, if I had your recent experience with ruger, I would probably be sour as well. However, I have only dealt with ruger customer service twice. Both times, they were extremely helpful.

1st time: I received a .45colt vaquero for my 18th birthday. I practiced fast draw with that gun to the point of damaging the pawl, cylinder ratchet, and the hammer would fall off of its cocked position if the hammer was pushed. You can't use a stock gun like I was, I didn't know that at the time. They fixed all the damage that I had done to the gun free of charge to me. Needless to say, I was pleased.

2nd time: The P345 that I won from this forum (thanks Taurus9mm) shot really high at 25 yards. I called ruger and the nice lady apologized and sent me out the correct height rear sight free of charge.

I was pleased with the service that I received. I have a mkII, vaquero, bisley, P345, sp101, and a M77 mkII. I think my problem with the P345's poi was entirely ruger's fault. No other ruger has had a problem due to quality issues.

As a side note, I think their magazine disconnect safety design for the P345 and sr9 is ridiculously stupid. I removed mine as I dryfire almost daily.

Re: Ruger Customer Service

Well as you dry firing does help with your timing, and practise is the key to making you fast. I didn't expect them to hold up for ever but they could have lasted a few month or so. But here I have 3 of them working, the 3rd one doesn't have a spring kit in it since its a real pain for me to put in I am just going make it one to go to the smith and have it made like a colt with the broken one. If the other 2 go down i am done with match's until i get tme made to run like a Swiss clock. Thanks for the in site nice to have a little support rather than have dirt kicked on you with it's really Ruger fault to start with.

...kinda like havin' a splinter...you can pick at it..or you can grit your teeth and get it out...I'm for gettin' it out...especially where guns are concerned...it's been festerin' awhile now...I'd buy a coupla new ones and sell them "newer, better" Rugers...Uberti's high, but I hear good things about their performance...

Re: Ruger Customer Service

The Bisley grip frame fix's my right hand better. I have limited use of my ring finger on right hand due to a roping accident, other wise I would have never changed pal.

...my favorite "feel" of a SA was a Bisley Vaquero (0ld Style) 4 5/8"...never felt a better balance...Bisley grip fits my paws like a glove...haven't held the new Bisleys...

Re: Ruger Customer Service

Well Ruger said they were going to mail me the part, the transferbar as oftoday I don't have the part. Guess the mail is slow, or they forgot one of the two.

Re: Ruger Customer Service

Well I don't feel that I should pay anything for the part, and I would make them pay shipping both ways and have them fix their new gun. But I have a spring kit in it, so I want the part. Not that I am going to replace the part I want if for someone else that will soon have one break on them.

Re: Ruger Customer Service

Re: Ruger Customer Service

Slide your cylinder pin a 1/4" forward out of lock position . Point the empty gun towards the floor and cock hammer slowly and see if the transfer bar stops when it slides up and hits the firing pin . If it stops that is why you are breaking pawls and tranfer bars . A slight bevel on the end of tranfer bar will stop that .

Re: Ruger Customer Service

Thanks, Gunrunner. I checked my Blackhawk and it doesn't stop but catches slightly before bumping over. I might go ahead and bevel it a bit more.

Re: Ruger Customer Service

I bevel all SA rugers because if the cylinder pin come unlatched it will stop the gun from working in a match or hunting and you can feel it when cocking it going over the hump so you can relock it at a good or better time .

Mac ... your gun sounds perfect , if it goes over it leave it alone , you don't want to be smooth and can't feel it when it comes unlatched .

I feel Snuffy guns need hammer stops installed to keep them from over indexing like the short stroke guns have or shorten the pawl to the correct length ...
