Smith & Wesson Question

OK experts what do I have, or rather, a co-worker?
Green box with a top label that says:
Smith & Wesson
No. 38. Automatic Ejector
Springfield Mass.

Top of barrel reads:
SMITH & WESSON SPRINGFIELD MASS USA PATD JAN 17 & 24 65
JULY 11, 65 AUG 24, 69 JULY 19, 1876 ISSUE JULY 25 1870

Butt is stamped 7348. Could find no other markings
Looks like a Model 2 but is a top break and a 4” barrel, appears to be a short 38.

Thanks Jim

Re: Smith & Wesson Question

Smith made a bunch of top breaks in .38 S and W. The serial # is not doing me much good trying to figure out which one you have, cause back then most of the models started at #1 and went from there. Is it a double or single action gun? (They made the top breaks in both single and double action.)

Re: Smith & Wesson Question

Don't know for sure but it has a triggrt like a Model 2 so I guessing single action.
