Hi all,
New here..love SA Revolvers. One of my favorites is my Cimarron Arms (Uberti) Doc Holiday Special. Only problem is it's so heavy! I have 5 broken vertebrae..so the discomfort carrying the revolver means I leave it at home most often. What I carry without fail..is one of my 3 NAA 22 Mags! ( A Mini, a Sidewinder, and a Pug) The weight on those little gems is mostly non-existent! Of course..I do have to sacrifice SOME stopping ability! LOL!
Anyone else here have a similar problem packing heavy iron?
Cheers,
Unkei

Welcome from Texas. Concealment is my biggest concern but that would be rather heavy for every day carry. Most of the time I pack a Kahr CW40 but is I really need smaller I like the Ruger LCP, about ten ounces, .7" wide, and seven shots of .380 JHPs in a fast handling package. I have never tried the mini revolvers but the people I hear from say they are high quality. I just don't feel comfortable with rimfire for up close and personal. We do what we must to find the best compromise.

A bad back just takes a lot of fun out of life. Sorry you are dealing with that.

Welcome from Tx . I had a good collection of pocket guns and shot a ton more . I hope I can help you pick one suit for you .

I have the Cimarron " P jr " 4 3/4 and love them they are a little smaller in size then your " Doc holiday " . The jr are 31.5 oz . I don't know how much the Doc Holiday weights .

Welcome from northern Wisconsin. Glad to have you with us.

No one ever accused my handguns of being pocket guns. Up here, I only carry for the sake of defense against bears and such, so that rules out pocket guns. We have several fans of the little guns, here, though, so you'll have company.

Here's my 44 mag I carry for black bears. Compared to the one I have for grizzly bears, it is a pocket gun.

It's a 629. so a six shot. Called the 629 Backpacker.

It's a special edition that S&W runs every now and then, so not in their catalog. It's ported, so muzzle whip is not at all bad, so easy for follow up shots. All steel, but weight is a very manageable 38+ ounces. Has a bit more bite than my other 629s with factory hunting loads, but not at all bad. About as accurate as a 44 mag snubbie can be, too. Fun gun to shoot.

Now for a really fun to shoot bear gun, S&W makes a 500 S&W Backpacker edition. Wow! (I think I'll just stay with my 460.)

Thanks Everyone!

Hi,
Thanks for all the replies! I feel welcome already. Already have 18 handguns ranging from 22lr to 45Colt and 45acp, as well as 45/410, so not looking for the next great gun....as yet..!
To tx gun runner, thanks for the suggestions, but have most of those. The Doc Holiday is right about 2 1/2 lbs!
I really like my Ruger New Vaquero, my Colt Combat Commander, and Colt New Agent. Also have 2 Walther PPK/S in 32 and 380, as well as numerous Sigs. Also have 4 Derringers and a couple S&Ws. My good wife does not mind my handgun purchases, but I do try to keep new ones to 1 or 2 a year. Oh..can't forget my Beretta 950 BS!
Cheers,
Unkei

Actually, not everything. Always room for another handgun. :) (Passed the 18 mark awhile back.)

By the way, I think that 38 ounces is pretty light for the type of gun it is. I am not a fan of scandium or aluminum frames to lighten the weight. Not so much the recoil, though that can be bad, as much as the way these guns vibrate, for lack of a better word, when you shoot them. I think steel tends to cushion, better.

38 ozs is super heavy to me for a 24 / 7 carry guns .

17.2 ozs / 642 S&W / loaded
21.5 ozs / CM40 Kahr / loaded
27.7 ozs / Glock 27 / loaded
31.6 ozs / Cimarron SA 38 special / empty
32.2 ozs / Glock 23C / loaded
34.8 ozs / Glock 35 / loaded
34.9 ozs / 1911 combat / empty
40.0 ozs / Ruger Vaquero Sheriff / empty

All my hunting and target guns are all over 40.0 ozs [ except my Glock 35 ]
and sure helps on felt recoil .

You're right, of course. That is too heavy for a 24/7 carry gun, but I don't carry 24/7 and have no need to carry 24/7 where we live, now. When I do carry, it is only on an occasional trip in the backwoods for defense against four legged predators - that's what drives the cartridge and guns I carry and the type of holsters. It means magnums and guns heavy enough to allow for a follow up shot. Of course, if I found myself in a position where it was two-legged predators, I would have to go with a different setup.

Love the knife!!

That is a great looking revolver. First one I have seen. My local gun shops don't carry very many single actions

I'm lucky I have a gun shop which has over 3,000 guns is stock for me to fondle guns and it is only 7 mile away and a new Gander Mnt store which is closing after only be open for 1 yr . I've been in that store 6X and never had 1 sales person ask to help me . I had to go and find someone to help me . They had 7 sale people around and only 4 customer in the store . Now I wonder why they are going out of business

True about single actions. Even up here in our very rural area, shops don't carry a lot of single actions because they are too slow to sell. No different than city gun shops. Our shops need to sell semi-auto pistols and black guns to stay in business.
