It has been posted before by me.

I am still the idea that the cross bow is a good idea. Which one who knows, really does anyone have a clue as to what weight of draw and what type of a cross would be a good all around cross bow. One that you can hunt with as well as protection?. Then how to make your own bolts to shoot out of it. After there isn't going to be any sporting good stores any where to get more bolts. Just thinking, any idea's?

Re: It has been posted before by me.

look where I have posted this, this is not for just hunting its where there is not going to be any law and no one to enforce any law but the ones they want too. shooting a gun off will give away your position. And would be a waste of ammo that you may need to save your life. But then again those that have to take pills to live aren't going to be around long after their pills run out.

...I think they'll be a valuable asset for times when quiet is necessary...always have been...whether fighting or taking game...it'd be worthwhile having one and plenty of bolts...good idea, Snuffer...

I'm teaching Duke to be a Drug dog to sniff them out for me

If you must have a crossbow the way you cock it is a big deal and most of the accuratcy is in putting the string on the trip lever . The limb MUST be pulled evenly . I hope that makes sense ......

Tx gun runner gives you no BS. It takes three times as long to reload a cross bow then a compound bow.
If you are physically capable you are much better armed with a compound bow, don’t beleve gunrunner or me?, check way back into history when they only had bows. JMHO.

I use compound bow because the basics are the same, I know they did not have them way back then

Re: It has been posted before by me.

but did not the orginal (more or less) bows of history also differ in another significant way?

while a traditional bow does have the "firepower" over a cross bow, my understanding from history is that it took years and years of training and continual practice to maintain proficiency..............while a cross bow required much less training and practice............

kind of like revolvers vs bottom feeders........

Yep it takes practice to shoot any bow really good, traditional, compound or cross. Just like a hand gun or rifle. I don’t think the cross bow is as forgiving as some think they are.

You only have one shot with any bow, where did I say I needed or wanted speed. Do you have any experance with a cross bow? I as I posted in the first place use it mainly for taking of game.

....http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crossbow

...interesting history...I've only seen them as a weapon...read that they could drive a bolt through 2 or 3 men...their use in modern wars puts the hair up on my neck...I'd rather take a bullet anyday than a bolt OR an arrow...

Now that you posted that I agree never thought about it but man I bet that would really hurt. Wait maybe the experts have been shot with both of them. We will have to want and see if they have or haven't. But I agree no pictures please, might back south brain shot, no one wants to each either of them with a south brain shot. Least ways not me how about you sheepdog? I bet not.

Re: It has been posted before by me.

...I wouldn't hunt with one unless I had to...slow as I am, I'd never get a second shot off...and without sights, prolly miss the first time...I have friends who can shoot the longbow by just throwing it up there and lettin' it fly...and hit an orange often...don't see how they can index that fast...JB could prolly teach us...

Re: It has been posted before by me.

Long bows do take lots of practice, I haven’t shot one in years, now the compound with a good set of sights is a bit easer. Most cross bows com with some sort of optics, witch I have on my compound. My dislikes for the cross bow are it is heavy ( 7+ lbs), and I find it cumbersome in the field. The length or a rifle and the width of a kite, again JMHO.

Re: It has been posted before by me.

I agree, with you sheepdog. Well that puts more lite on the subject. Having never held one or shot one, or used one either. Facts needed to know never concerned the weight or the bluckness of the critter. Ok so its not that good of an idea, i was going to ask about a blow gun but sheepdog and me don't have enough air in our lungs to blow a dart that would kill a bug unless we use the other end. Then there is the aiming thing not sure we would hit much using that end.
I wear and need tri folcal glass's so using a compound or long bow seems to be out of the question for me. Well another great idea taking off like a lead balloon. I was sure wanting that cross bow but sure don't want to carry or hold that weight either.
I was just thinking that it would be a great idea then the fact of matter its not so great.
Hope we don't have to go back living like that sheepdog and I are littery going to loose are pants as we are not going to be having much to eat lol.
tried the sling shot years ago when I was a kid. The one you swing over your head, missed the rabbit just about killed my sister and scared my dad half to death so that one is really out.
Well this is the second time I brought this up and now I guess I need to burry this idea. Thanks for the help.
