Just out of curiosity, do a lot of ya’ll have storm shelters or “safe” rooms? Around here, there are a lot of houses that have old cellars, a few enterprising folks that have built concrete shelters, and getting more popular every day are the pre-fab bury in your back yard fiberglass shelters. Did some looking on the net and sure enough, at least in Texas, there sure are some options available such as these here………. http://www.shelters-of-texas.com/refuge.html But, while I was digging around, it would seem that another option that folks are getting into are so-called storm shelter “safe rooms”. The advantages of these would seem to be since you’re in your house, you don’t have to worry about rain/hail/flying lumber getting to the shelter. And they are also advertising them as a “safe” room in the event of home invasion and also using them to double as a security safe for valuables. An interesting idea to say the least as one of these puppies could be just bolted/anchored to the foundation floor in the garage for easy access in the garage…….or even doored into the home. Honestly, I have never thought of this “inside-the-home” tornado shelter before but it appears to be a option. Three times I can remember putting kids in the bath tub and putting a blanket over them just in case while me and the wife road it out. Never any direct hits, but it does get one to thinking. Anyways, here are the interior versions. http://familysafetexas.com/public/existing.htm http://www.texasshelters.com/post.htm They say these things can survive a hit from an F5 tornado……it don’t get any worse than that….. makes one wonder just what he might be able to build by hand....... |

Around here, pretty much every house has a full basement. I'm not sure why the poured wall basements never caught on as much down south. That's all the tornado protection we need. Now a walk in gun safe...That would be sweeeet. |

Window will unbolt for another exit . Neighbors and friend know to look for pod if a twister hit my mobile , plus I have cell phone . The pod is 10x stronger then a mobile or house . Cost $250 ![]() |

SD: I think the call out for pizza part isn't going to happen if you are living in it. Both the calling out and the availability of pizza. I wonder how they generate electricity for the entire place for 5 years? |
