just looking at some videos and ran across this.......

Though the majority in this Country are born and bred "condition 1" with pistols, i've have always read and seen the Israeli folks going with the condition 3 carry of hammer down on an empty chamber.

Again, i have not had the best of luck with 1911's......though i dearly love them. But too many times off duty carrying concealed i have had the safety snicker off in my britches-----not a very comfortable feeling to draw the gun and find that the safety is already off..........enough times that i went to condition 3 carry for off duty.

Call it a holster problem, ambi safety problem, a lefty problem, or what-ever....it was still enough of a concern to go to condition 3 for this lefty. Back then, however, money was a concern and experimenting with hard to get left hand high dollar holsters was not an option.

i finally found a permenant fix to the problem years back for off-duty carry.......revolvers.

Good stuff. I carry cocked and locked and have never had the safety click off. It took me a while to feel comforable doing it.

...I did that, too, before I had Jim Clark put a right-side safety on mine...it's slower but peace of mind...one thing the video didn't cover, is what to do if your off hand is tied up or injured...if you're hanging on or struggling with someone...how do you cock your weapon...Israelis are taught to turn the grip outbound of the leg and rake the rear sights down the pantsleg real hard...drawing the slide to the rear and chambering a round...they also do this to clear a misfire one-handed....this is done finger off-trigger, of course...and should be practiced by anyone carrying an auto...the time may come when you have to do it...it, too, becomes instinctive with practice...being from the old school and having been taught to shoot one-handed...gives you options that a two-hand grip-taught shooter doesn't have...make sure you clear your weapon before practicing rake-cocking...

America style Glad to see Rob getting fatter I think it is slowing him down . I hated to go to LA and shoot against him in the 70's . His bad day and my good day he would still smoke my butt .

I haven't watched the video, but read somewhere (maybe here?) that the reason the Israelis do that stems from them acquiring a lot of different pistols with different features. For training purposes, the only way they could consistently safely train large groups of people with several different weapons was with the hammer down on an empty chamber.

...haven't heard that...but it makes sense...and with them arming 15% of the population...that's a lot of training...the alternative solution would be DAO pistols...no fumbling there...just shoot till the slide locks back...and the DAO pull...especially with the new Sig DAK(hi, Wiz!!!)trigger is supposed to be the smoothest yet....
