I am working on putting together my bag for a fast egress. Something to put in the closet and have ready if I need to be on the move in a hurry. Here is what I have thus far Couple MREs Water bottle & tablets Spare mags and food for my sidearm few changes of socks and drawers Boonie hat and baseball cap Gloves Flashlight Leatherman (I must have at least six of these things. One in my truck, one in my tackle box, a couple in different toolboxes, one in my camping stuff...) Shaving kit Parachute cord Pre-paid cell phone The last one is an investment I recommend. I got the phone for around fifteen, charged it up and put some minutes on it before throwing it in the bag. Only two people have the number and the pin to put more money on it. It sounds paranoid, but it will do me a lot more good than a phone tied to my name that can be shut down or traced more easily. |

that's a good kit........ though i would not have thought of shaving unless i had a gas mask to take with me. my "wonder radio" has been promised to me for Christmas........i think........ one of those wind-up am/fm flashlight types that take batteries or wind-up. they are cheap at harbor freight and academy's.....think they can also act as a cell phone charger. love my gerber tool and swiss army knife. amongst other things.................... i'm more prepared to "hole up" than to "rabbit".......basicly due to family considerations. though i do reconize and am prepared for a road trip to a safer place if driven out by tornado, fire, etc. |

The cell phone is a good idea. I like the prepaid idea for the same reasons you do. We have some BOBs, but would be better off if we could stay put. Don't forget the bic lighters. Thousands of uses for them.

The shaving kit has a couple razors, toothbrush, stuff like that. Everything I need to clean up in a stream or whatever so I can try to blend in and not look like Bear Claw in Jeremiah Johnson. Can't believe I forgot to mention a lighter. Zippo, they can go through some rough treatment and still light. |

Zippos are good, but then you need to carry the fuel. I toss in a few Bics and am good to go. Although a Zippo on top of them would be ok. I haven't owned a Zippo in many, many years.

Or you could take a flint, but that's just more work and hard to light a cigar with.

So here's my idea on this. Mine is more of a 'Get me home' bag and it changes with the seasons, somewhat. ![]() Here's what I have The small plastic case is a fly box I've modified a bit. It contains a flint and steel, a Fresnel lens, needle and thread, sinkers and hooks, fishing line on a plastic bobbin, Bic lighter, small tube of Neosporin, bandaids, and a single edge razor blade. This goes in my pocket if I ever need the bag. The large plastic bag has in it a toothbrush and toothpaste, Moleskin, toilet paper, floss, Stingeez, water purification tablets, Chapstick Bic lighter, Cyanoacrylate (super glue), Tylenol, Stingeez pen, and insect repellant. The pill bottle had bullion cubes in it, but I moved them to a small plastic bag. Takes up less room. Next are fire starters, easy to like and burn hot enough to ingite wet wood. Hand sanitizer, also can be used to start a fire. Micro fleece cloth, can be used for various tasks. Cyalum sticks, self explanatory. Gerber Strike Force, basically a flint and steel. More toilet paper, now in the large plastic bag. Boker eating utensils, a knife, fork and spoon with salt and pepper dispenser. Compass. Insanst tea, like Koolaid, water from a plastic canteen in not appetizing. Space blanket, can be used for shelter, warmth or a ground cover. Mylar space blanket, probably get used for ground cover. 2 half gallon bags, multiple uses. Mini Mag lite. 60 rounds of .223. Colapsable stove, will use anything flammable. Not sure it will work better than an Esbit, but I'm going to check them both soon. Nylon strap with Fas Tek buckles. 550 chord, this stuff is magic, no end to the uses, Gerber Multi Tool. Shurefire battery case with 6 123 batteries. Otis firearm cleaning kit. Plastic bag with, now, four packages of Ramen noodles. Not the best tasting in the world but provide the necessary calories. Green tea bags. 2 pair soxs, Shemaugh, G.I. Canteen, cup and cover. Gerber machete, poncho and liner. All this goes in a Badlands daypack The rest of the package, ![]() Molon Labe Kim |

Now that's a set up, Kim. Do you keep the AR in the vehicle you drive?

Yeah, BH, the AR and 5 30 round magazines are with me if I'm out. Like American Express, I never leave home without it. Wizard, I am on daily meds for diabetes, I carry a pill box with three days worth. Molon Labe Kim |

Kim, how do you store the gun? Here in NH we are not allowed to have a loaded rifle in any vehicle, no matter what. I can have 10 hand guns all loaded in it with my CCW, but no rifle. If we could, I'd have a 12 gauge in every vehicle I own. Here I would need to seperate the gun and the ammo. Hard to do in a pick up truck.

BH, we can't have a loaded firearm in the vehicle either with the exception of concealed carry. I keep the rifle and one magazine in an aluminum hard case and 4 loaded magazines in a drop leg pouch, with the day pack and a bunch of other necessary stuff locked in the bed of my truck under a fiberglass, smoked window topper. If you don't want a topper, look into one of those water proof, steel, lockable tool boxes. It would be big enough for a short barreled shot gun, an M4gery, ammunition and supplies. Sheepdog, that knife is a Gerber LMF (light multi function), that I've had for what seems like, forever and it was made when Gerber was still Gerber. Man can't have too many knives. If any of ya have suggestions, I'd like to hear them. Molon Labe Kim |

I like the idea of keeping a 12 gauge close, but can't figure out a way to carry it legal and handy. It's one or the other. |
