...you may have already dealt with... ...most folks have an eye dominance...leave both eyes open and point at a light switch across the room...close one eye...if you're not on target...try it with the other eye...the one which, when open, the finger's on the target...is your dominant eye...you will use it to point most of the time...now.... I'm right eye dominant...bigtime...though I'm left-handed...completely...when I point, my right eye is lining up my left finger...when I hold still and change eyes...the target "moves" 2-4"...enough to miss easily...so... ...in a home invasion incident...I'd be keeping both eyes open naturally...the only way I shoot and also the method that gives you best ability to see what's around you...however... ...in an in-home situation, you may be right-handed and right-eye dominant...yet your cover is to the right...meaning you have to jump out there in the open to engage...or close that dominant eye and keep your head under cover, using the "weak" eye and maybe even the weak hand, but staying behind cover best...to take your shot...the only way I can do that is to close the dominant eye...(hiding it behind cover) does the same thing... ...what I'm trying to get across is that what we automatically do can sometimes put us in danger...explore the possibilities(in your home or work) where you may have to do the unnatural to survive/win...and be somewhat practiced in it...to keep from instinctively exposing yourself to danger to use the eye you're most accustomed to using... |

I'm right handed and left eye dominant. I shoot all rifles with my left hand and I shoot my pistols with either, but better with my right. I didn't realize I was left eye dominant, or that there was even such a thing, until I was about 20. By then I had been shooting for a long while and could shoot, "instinct style" with a rifle. Meaning I could point and shoot without the use of a sight. weird, but it's how I did it for a long while. |
