We once said it will be over when you can walk into a Wally World on any given day, at any given time, and find 22lr on the shelf. Boy were we na´ve.

No, it's not over by any means, but there's no doubt is more plentiful, if you have the bucks. The competition and near competition ammo can be had quite easily. Sometimes at decent, on sale prices. The plinking ammo, esp. Rem, has taken a tremendous hit in price, easily 50%, and retailers are taking advantage of it. Some are also jacking up prices of CCI also. Finding CCI at 8 cpr delivered is a chore, but it is out there. I just bought a brick of CCI SV for $34.90 delivered at Academy. Right now Gander has CCI 40 gr mini's up for $8, limit 5, but free shipping is now up to $50 minimum. The mini's at Gander has been up for nearly two hours now. So that's another indication of improving 22lr stocks. Yesterday, C's had them up also, but they are now $9/100 plus no free shipping under $99, and today that has expired too.

All in all, most people have 22lr ammo, but they are paying for it. Not like the "good ole days" where we were lucky to get a box or two a week, right 303??? Link for Gander is below.

It was more like a box or ten a day for us that knew where and who to look for ammo.

Good point on the competition stuff. We have a Dunham's Sport that has Eley Target stuff for $ 20 plus a box and it sells, very slowly, but it does sell. That tells you how desperate things are in our area. Even 22 Shorts disappear off the shelf, immediately, so I doubt we'll ever see the good old days return, up here. Hate to say it, but I think this is the new normal for rimfire ammo.

I think so too. Back when the shortage first started I bought two cases of HC shorts at normal 2012 short prices. Expensive yes but now they seem like a deal. No one wanted to shoot shorts. I love shooting them in my Henrys. Especially the Mare's Legs. I won't bring home the gold with them but at 25 yards they are good enough for raccoons.

The good old days weren't that far back. I started my stash in late 2008. I have Wally World Federal Value Packs that were $11.47. Fifty round boxes of Champion that were $1.29. Still, you have to consider that ammo usually goes up twice a year, I think March and September. Doing the math, it actually hasn't gone up so much compared to years past.

I'm still happy I saw ahead. I'm at 25k rounds, and haven't paid more than 8 cents a round yet. Cheapest was 2 cents.

A year earlier these were $ 11.47 and sometimes on sale for less than $ 10. Yes I saw the 2012 shortage coming. This is what I bought in just one day.

Just a guess on my part, to be sure, but I do think that part of the high demand on rimfire ammo has been generated by all the new shooters we've been getting with concealed carry laws opening up and the recent emphasis on self-defense shooting. I don't think it's all a matter of hoarding. Lot more shooters, now, than even ten years, ago. Don't see any changes in this trend, anytime soon.

Hi there.

My problem with the above is the shoot like kwrap in my guns. Now that I shoot a little better ammo, the Champion is really pretty bad in comparison. All those cans at C's that I got plus all the 550 boxes at Wally's I've been getting rid of. The Fed AM shoot halfway decent in my guns, far better than the above.

PS Those 550 boxes came from Wally World. They were the only ones to receive them, unless, of course they were resold.

Everyone else had the blue 525 round boxes. And yes I know they were bought at wally's. I was there when I bought them.

My friend was with me at the time and thought I was crazy.

I think we are in the same boat with cheap ammo. We both bought a ton of it and now we don't like shooting it. Norma is my go-to round now days.

CCI SV is my warm up for my CZ's and Sporter Deluxe. Then I shoot Norma. Then I'll go to SK Standard +, then on to SK Rifle Match. Sometimes a few others in between, but always standards.

In my other rifles I'll shoot main mini's and a few GB's as they still shoot well for me. I shot a few Fed AM last time and was disappointed. What really disappointed me were the Fed 710 & 810's. I use to like them, but now I'm spoiled at what slightly better ammo can do. Even the CCI SV's have outshot all my HV's at 50 yards, except for some of the HV Match stuff.

PS I thought the 525's we got in the cans were maroon and black. I'll have to look.

PPS Don't have any here except a couple of WW's. Got rid of them all. Still have 15K in NV.

Most of my stash is the red Value Packs and 50 count Champions. Both shoot well in any .22 I've got, under two inches at 25 yards. Mini-Mags are as high as I go for "match" ammo.

Yep, I guess they were blue.

This is the color that I remember. I don't recall the blue at all. I dumped 20K of these in bags to get them out of the cardboard and pack in the metal cans better. I remember the boxes well.

Yours might have been blue, but mine weren't. Black and maroon.

You've been hanging around blue you know who too much.

Gander has been putting 22lr up around 7:30 3-4 times a week lately. Last night they put up CCI SP for $30, limit two. It's still up, as that's a bit pricey.

The Tacts are now up for $25, limit 1, and the 36 gr mini's for $8, limit 5. $50 worth gets free shipping.

Guess I'm old school. If I have to go online to get 22 ammo because I can't get it, locally, things are pretty bad. Makes me wonder why I bother with 22s, especially when I can just shoot air guns.

I've bought online or through catalogs for the last 20 years. Its cheaper (or was) to buy by the case. About the only exception to that was buying from wally world.

Didn't feel like starting a new thread for this.

This was introduced in the SHOT Show by CCI. Someday I'm staying in LV and "busting" into this show. It's a distributors "only" show that I have a few friends go to.

Wow, 1,850 fps.

This .22 ammo is constructed from a unique mix of copper particles and polymer compressed into a potent, 21-grain hollow-point bullet. Combined with the companyĺs priming and propellant, Copper-22 loads achieve a muzzle velocity of 1,850 fps and is said to provide excellent accuracy.
