Now, not sure I'd classify it as a target BP pistol, but I know a guy that shoots one and, from the bench, his will do inch and a half at 100 yards with the right load. No, I won't be loading this thing up to the gills, though it will take the same loads as my Encore ML rifle barrel. Lot's of guys shoot these Encore ML pistols with a full 100 grain loads of T7 or BH209, but I'll probably start at 80 and work up until I reach the best accuracy load.

Nice looker and I bet in your hands its accurate.

That is the 1st time I have ever hear or seen a BP pistol in a Encore ...... Do you know the barrel rate of twist . The twist will tell you if it is set up for sabot , slug or round ball .

All of the 50s are a 1-28 - definitely a sabot twist - TC designed these specifically to shoot sabots. That's why sabots are almost universally used in the Encore 50s. Most folks are using either there TC Shockwave or the Barnes sabots. I have some of both and will be experimenting to see what my rifle and pistol like best.

A great many shooters have also switched over to Blackhorn 209 as a black powder substitute because it burns cleaner. No need to swab the bore between shots and it cleans up with regular bore solvents. No need to go the hot, soapy water route after a day of shooting.

In my rifle, 100 grains of BH209 will give me roughly 1900- 2000 fps with the 250-300 grain sabots I will be using. That's a moderate load, but obviously no slouch in the energy department. A 120 grain load will push that up to 2200 fps. Compare it to my Marlin 444 rifle shooting a 265 grain bullet in the 2200 fps. Obviously, you can load these Encores to shoot elk and moose and a lot of Encore shooters use them for that very purpose.

In the pistol, though, I will keep things on the milder side, starting at 80 grains and working up from there.

The beauty of sabots is that with the right sabot collar, I can shoot 40 cal, 44 mag, 45 Colt pistol bullets and so on, too. Just a matter of using the right collar.

My 50 cal flint gun I built has a 36" barrel with 1 in 66 or 72 I forget which it is and will handle 170 gr of 3F which will push a 180 gr patched round ball to 2350 FPS . I only shoot 110 gr of 2F which shoot a 180 RB to 2050 FPS . The 2F is easier on the shoulder . If I use the TC bore cleaner for patch lube I can shoot all day without cleaning bore between shots and I only shoot real black powder . The patch drys out in a hour using TC bore cleaner so it not good for hunting . I use 103 patch lube for hunting .

Targets

Wife shot two 99's at 25 yds back to back at Friendship

Wife had me make her a "T" Shirt with her target on it

Wife's winning agg. 25 yd and 50 yd

First shot was the 8 .

Wife shoots a pretty good 50 yards also

10 shots 25 yards

One of mine at 25 yds. The first shot was the low 9

Best number of 10's in a row by the wife at 50 yds

You asked for it. This ought to keep you talking for a while. All targets are one hand
un-supported. Most all were in competition.

This is a small forum that would be easy to miss or pass over but there is an amazing amount of knowledge here. We have several people with remarkable ability and experience that a person interested in the sport could not buy access to but that people here share freely. I am very appreciative of this and tip my hat to the remarkable men and women that share their priceless experience and hard won knowledge with anyone who asks here.

I thank you folks. I have learned a lot and I love the people here. What a fine group.
Glad to see a post from u again mac! Welcome frizzen, from colorado!

What is on the front of the barrel? Its not a bayonet is it? Can't be as the bullet would hit it.

She was feeling cocky one year when we went to Friendship and she had me make a
"T" shirt with her 100 7x on it she had shot and it said only two words. "You Wish"

Oh, she has won the Women's National Pistol Championship ten times now, and is the current winner.
She has also won the men's national Flint Agg. As well.
