What are your favorites?

I was wondering what your favorites or suggestions are on black powder, percussion caps, wads and Cleaner/lubricant?

I am new to BP, so I bought names I knew the first time. This is what I got for my Dragoon.

Hornady Lead Balls

Hodgen Triple Seven FFG Black Powder. ( It says sulfur free, but not smokeless ) I don't think I want smokeless though.

Remington no.10 Percussion Caps

Traditions Performance Firearms Wonder Wads

I also want to get Ballistol for cleaner/Lubricant

Please let me know what you think, thanks.

Back when I was shooting BP, you had a choice between black powder and the new kid on the block, pyrodex. We didn't have T7, back then, so can't comment on that. One thing I do know is that black powder never failed me, but pyrodex was sometimes finicky. Let us know how the T7 works for you.

I shoot Goex black powder . Some of the stuff like pyrodex is not allow in some matches . I think RWS #11 are the best and Remingtons are my second choice . I shoot reduced loads and use Instant Cream of Wheat as filler to bring the ball to the front of cylinder , plus it keeps the bore clean . I use a ball seater for less work and I don't like the wads , I use the grease on the front cylinder to keep the fouling soft . I can shoot all day and not clean the bore only wipe the outside of gun .

Thank you both. Is Hodgen Pyrodex?

Yes, pyrodex is a Hodgon powder, still the most common BP substitute in our area, at any rate. Does a decent job as long as you use a hot cap because it needs a higher temp to ignite than BP and that also means you need to keep your ignition system clean and clear to get a good fire.

These days, the pellets are all the rage with the in line folks, but pellets were not around when I was shooting, so can't comment on the pellets. I now shoot Blackhorn 209 for my inlines and love it.

For my tractional stuff, though, which I am just starting up, again, I want to go with black powder IF I can get it. Not an easy thing to do in our area and I just can't afford to deal with what it takes to order it on my own, but one thing for sure, one way or another, I will be shooting a lot of traditional, again. As much as I admire what my modern in line stuff can do, muzzleloading will always mean traditional to me.

You're welcome, Buck. Let us know how your shooting goes with that Dragoon. Very interested in knowing.

I sure will North Country Gal.
By the way, I didn't mention that I didn't buy the Hodgen Triple Seven in pellets, I got the granular type.

For revolver
Goex BP
RWS poppers
Pure lead round balls
No wads
Malt o meal filler for target loads
Hodgdon SpitBall seal is no longer available (I'm running out) but I would use some type of grease over the ball on a revolver.
