LH 300WSM with Flutted barrel?

Any opinions upon great models in the 300wsm, Left handed with a flutted barrel? I have a tikka t3 lite now in the 300wsm and love the round, but would like something more suitable for me considering the only thing I do right handed is play guitar...

Re: LH 300WSM with Flutted barrel?

WELCOME ...... most LH shooters I know , have shot RH bolts long guns so long that when they get a LH gun they hate it and go back to a RH one or get a Encore . Encore don't make a 300WSM flutted barrel , but there is a company who makes it .

You must be, Surf's son?

I too play guitar right handed and shoot lefty. I shoot right handed rifles though. Easier to find and then to re-sell if I need or want to.

You looking for a fluted barrel for weight reasons, or just like the look?

One more question to not answer your question. How do you like the short magnum? I've shied away from a WSM cartridges.

Re: LH 300WSM with Flutted barrel?

To Bountyhunter:
Yes, Surf's my father, and considering he has many guitars I picked up the talent right handed. Regarding the flutted barrel, I'd like to push my cartridge to its max range, even though the flutted barrel only helps to keep the barrel cool, I thought if I was going to spend money on another rifle, and keep it in the same cartridge mine as well beef it up some how, (Just like getting a new car). An last to explain my views upon the 300WSM cartridge; I've talked to various people before buying the rifle in that caliber, its a flat shooting, hard hitting cartridge with a fine B.C and knowing the the 300WSM pulls the same balistics as the 300 Win Mag, with more efficanacy and less recoil I wanted it. During the time I had only a $1500 budget for a rifle, I wanted to get one that could take down all that was needed for me to take down. The only problem however with the WSM is the price for ammo is ridiculous, so I covered this by handloading. I have not shot anything else as far as big game rifles go so I really cant compare by wisdom, but I can compare by knowledge.

Re: LH 300WSM with Flutted barrel?

afraid the 300 WSM came after my time.....so to speak......and it is too much cartridge and horse power for my needs.

But everything i have read about the cartridge is quite positive and that is from hunters and not gun pushers. The reloading capability ought to make it a fine choice in keeping costs down.

As far as a LH bolt action.......been there, done that.....never again. I became accustomed to RH bolts so left hand bolts became rather awkard for me when i got my first one. Also, the availability of calibers and models/styles in LH was rather limited compared to the RH offerings. If you try to make all your rifles and shotguns LH, it can get rather compromising especially in specific areas. And then you end up with a mix of guns that are LH, RH, and ambi.. When it came time to sell or trade, the LH guns turned into a hickey instead of a benefit to move as it seems the RH folks seriously out-number us LH folks.........

think of them like guitars.......heck, i don't even know if they make a LH guitar.........

I always treated a bolt action as nothing more than a single shot with convient ammo storage as i am not a speed shooter so again no LH bolt advantage in that dept for me either.

Now i have seen some fellers who are accomplished hunters with a bolt who can work a bolt like magic for quick follow-up shots.....unfortunately, i ain't one of them...
