.45 acp, .38sp, and .357mag. Summer is almost here and when it gets hot, I almost exclusively carry a .38 smith in my pocket.

Re: CCW Caliber?

i think i am just going to stay with the old 38............i have made a change from +p to standard pressure however in the airweight simply because of one word..........."pain".......guess i'm getting old but i hate it when it gets to the point that you don't even want to practice because of the pain.......and that ain't right so something has got to change........and its cheaper to change the ammo than it is to change guns......

a wadcutter vs +p........ the pain/recoil difference alone will add years to my practice and carry..........

+2 ..... I load 110 Hornady HP/XTP with 6.0 Unique / 1000 fps , which expands well and low recoil for fast followup shot . Don't like +P or 357 in lightweight stubby , it takes too long to get back on target and time in a gunfight is everything in my book . The S&W 642 hammerless is great for shooting it from a purse or jacket pocket . The action is sealed from dirt or lint and nothing can get between hammer and firing pin like a boobed hammer

45 acp (1911) or 40 S/W (M&P), depending on how my daily "zombie-meter" reads.

Another 45ACP carrier. I also like the 45 Colt for a handgun hunting cartridge.

Mostly a .45 acp in a 1911. Have some 40's, 9's and a .380, but like the old timer, .45 acp the best. Once in awhile I carry a S&W 642 .38 Special.

3" SP101 with Starfire 38+P jhp in the house and local, switch to .357 when the need seems to be there.
I have carried the Colt 1991 too.

In warmer weather I carry my 38 Spl LCR in a front pocked holster stoked with Buffalo Bore 158 gr LSWC-HP/GC's +P's. When the cooler weather arrives then the SP101 goes into a Crossbreed Supertuck IBW with the same ammo.

The BB ammo is impressive as the 158 gr's chrony an average of 1,037 FPS out of my 2 1/4" SP101 and 1,017 FPS out of my 1 7/8" LCR. In the 13 1/2 oz LCR they are snappy but shoot to point of aim at 7 yards with it. They are supposedly low flash but never touched one off in low light.

How is the noise level on the 327? Is it a beast if you had to use without hearing protection?
