Appointment this afternoon

Morning all!

Got my appointment this afternoon to get my ccw here in Florida. Going to go to the Dept of Agriculture office and do it there, just so I don't have any issues. Plus, I think I'll come out cheaper to have them take my prints and picture than I would driving all over hell's half acre trying to do it on my own.

I'll keep everyone up to date on the time it takes to roll through.

Florida is a good state. I have one in my native Washington State and one from Arizona. I had one from Minnesota but let it expire.

When my wife and I decided to get ours last spring, we took a $35 one day, 8 hr. class taught by members of our police department here in Punta Gorda. The wait at the Dept. of Ag. was nearly 3 months, and you still had to wait up to another 3 months to have it mailed to you. Instead, picked up the packet and went to Walmarts for a pic that everyone knew about, and the local police dept. to get fingerprinted, mailed it in sometime late June, and my wife received her's in mid July and I got mine in early Sept. Easy and hassle free. All the Dept. of Ag does here is to help you fill it out. You still have to send it to the Fed and wait. It is very easy to fill it out. I you have any questions, when you go to the police department for the finger printing they will help you. It was very easy.

At the time we got ours, FL was recognized by 23 states.

Some of those state only recognize it if you are a native of FL. But even at that is the most of any state that I know of. UT and AR are the second and third place states.

If I recall correctly, Nevada wasn't one of the states recognized. I have to recheck that.

My only issue with filling it out myself, is that for electronic fingerprinting, I have to drive about an hour either way and pay the fee for it at the police station, Then drive and get my pic and pay for it. It's just a one stop shop for my lazy butt.

Being ex-military, I don't have to take any class, but I plan on auditing my wife's when she goes for her's.

The wait has gone down substantially on getting an appointment. I made the call to get the appointment just about a month ago.

Man, in and out in 20 minutes. Digital fingerprints, so no issues down the line with those. People there told me that they are running at about 3-4 weeks now instead of the full 90

All you people be dam happy you didn't need a CWP in Michigan but in Michigan it's done by which county you live in. And some county like mine Kent county thinks no one should have a permit at all so they drag the whole process out as long as possible most people here wait 10-12 weeks and some are denied for no reason at all.
First you need a class for 8 hour and the proof you took the class at $95.00
Then a passport grade photo--$10.00
Then you take the photo, the class proof and $100.00 to the county clerks office
Then you go to the Police station to be finger printed
Then you wait even my last renewal took 8 weeks

And no ever let it expire or the whole process has to be repeated.

My Walmart is 5 minutes away. My police station is 10 minutes away. The photo was $5 or less. The digital finger printing was $10. I think, to send the info in was $65. I can't remember, but I think that's what it was.

I could have gone to the Dept. of Ag and had everything done there BUT it was a 3 month wait and I think they charged $110 which included the photo and finger printing. It was a very easy decision for us last year to do the paperwork ourselves.

PS The class, as I mentioned, was $35 and taught by our police department.

I guess that's where the difference comes in now. The price at the dept of AG is 112 bucks. You still have to send in the $112 if you do it on your own, plus the cost of the photo, plus the cost of getting fingerprinted. I've read a couple horror stories about illegible fingerprints putting the process out even longer, and I didn't want to run a chance of that.

I understand about the finger printing. The police officers at the class said there wouldn't be a problem if they did it. I really thought we only paid around $65 to send the permit in. I'm reasonably sure you are correct though. Someday I'll go back and look at the check book. The main thing for us was the time frame. We were leaving the area in July and three months would make it Sept or Oct and we wouldn't be back here til December. We had made an appointment for the first week in December then a couple of my buddies said they mailed them in and got the permit back in 4-6 weeks. So we went that route. We put the mailing address of our residence in NV for the permits and had no problem with the delivery.

Hope you get yours soon.

Sounds like Seattle in the 70s.

Just looked in the check book. We paid $70 when we mailed it in ourselves. With the photo and fingerprinting came to $85 each. Also checked our copies that we made. I knew the state AG had a fee if you went through them. It was $112 for us too last June if we went through them. The fine print said $70 if we filled it out and attached everything needed. But like I said, it was the time frame that is the real reason for us doing it ourselves.

In Wisconsin, we had to attend a two or three hour class that was fairly lame, fill out the paperwork, pay the fee and wait. Not much to it.

Our class actually ran close to 10 hours as we spent about 3 hours at the police range. The indoor portion was very interesting as the policemen only talked about what and how the laws pertained to us. As you could guess, we spent a good bit of time on "stand your ground law" in FL and how it applies to us. Also such things as we can't carry into a bar, or a restaurant/bar. They also gave some personal experiences, some amusing, some not so. They also brought a variety of weapons in which they showed us the proper stance and how to hold them. They gave many examples and told us to choose the ones we liked best. All in all, the morning went fast.

NCG, out of the class of 30, 19 were women.

Congrats on your permit.
In Missouri you take the 8 hour class, having to show proficiency with a revolver & a semi-auto. Then you go to your county police dept. for prints & background check. It took 3 weeks & then to DMV for an ID card. They recommend here to get a seperate ID & not put it on your drivers lisense.

Missouri shows reprocity(?) with I believe 38 states. I'm not sure about IL, I don't know what they are doing.

Washington State was the first state to pass a "must issue" law. And they set a law on how long it can take. If the state wants to take longer they have to go before a judge and give the reasons. Here the county in which you live issues the license.
