I finally got my Arizona carry permit, only 55 days after I sent in my application. Ironically, I didn't NEED a permit before, now I see this says on the back "This permit must be in your possession while carrying a concealed weapon...." Also ironically, I got it mostly to skip the background check to buy a handgun, and I just did a background check on Saturday and got delayed. I don't imagine showing the permit at this point accomplishes anything, since it's already gone to NICS, but I don't really know. There's a Smith & Wesson Mdl 69 4" on the way. The smaller, lighter 44 mag, like I didn't get enough recoil out of the 629.

At 12 oz lighter than my 4" Redhawk it should boot a little more. Hang on tight and smile a lot. Congrats on the new gun and the permit. According to USA Carry you are good in 38 states. I had to get a NH resident and Utah NR to get there so good permit. https://www.usacarry.com/concealed_c...city_maps.html |

I think the 5 shot 69 is a super carry gun . I've had a CCW permit in Pa , Ca , Az , Tn and Tx since 1968 . We need a CCW permit good is every city and state , not just in 39 states . |

I got the mdl 69. I stopped at the gun shop after my range trip, since it's on the way. I asked if my delay cleared. It didn't, so I pointed out that I got my CCW. They weren't 100% sure it was okay to release it, but after some discussion, they did. I didn't try to talk them into it, but they thought since my permit was dated before the sale it was OK. On paper it was a stupid buy, since after all considerations it was about $ 65 cheaper than a new gun from Grabagun. This one is used, with some very slight scuffs to the satin finish. At least I got to look at it, and it has NONE of the issues I've seen complaints about on the S&W board. (The barrel is on straight, the gap is very tight and square, the DA is reasonably light and smooth.) The single action trigger is fantastic, believe it or not probably better than my old mdl 27 and 19. I had bought a nice Bianchi leather holster for my 686, and that didn't work out AT ALL. It's a minimalist open end design, and the full lug of the 686 makes the sight catch really badly on that open end. It looks like that holster will be GREAT for this 69. (It's also perfect for my GP100.) I need some 44 mag ammo pretty badly. I've got 50 rd of very mild 44 spl, 60 rd of somewhat light LAX 44 mag, and 100 rd of fairly stout Herters 44 mag. That won't last long. VS the 629 6 1/2" Last edited by Shakyshoot; 08-21-2018 at 04:10 PM. |

I had a 629 stainless and a Classic Hunter blued, both in 44Mag. Last year I sold them both trying to thin out the herd. Seeing your pictures makes me regret selling them. Enjoy your beauties and thanks for sharing.

Got to the range today and put 60 rd through the 69. 30 of very mild HSM 44 spl, 20 of moderate LAX 44 mag, and only 10 of "full power" Herter's 44 mag. When I say full power, I don't mean they're bear loads, just normal range 44 mag as opposed to a light load. Even at that, the Herter's puts some smack on you with this gun. Not too bad though, certainly not painful. I think the LAX is a very good range load for this gun, at 240 gr and just over 1000 fps. Too bad I've only got 40 rd left of it. No negatives to report about the gun. Decent DA trigger, great SA trigger. Had easy ejection and very strong primer strikes. Best I did was this 10 yd group. (1 1/16") Slow SA with the 44 spls. Shot a little high right. I see the sight was quite a ways right, so I suppose the previous owner was compensating for shooting low left. Pretty happy with the gun so far. |
