When to the VA hospital in Nashville , park his car in the parking lot got out and put his 45 auto in the trunk of car , and the MP arrested him and took his gun and had to get bailout . Went to court they fined him $500 for gun and $500 for the ammo and kept his gun . They said he should have parked in the street , It is impossible to find parking in that area in day light for 4 blocks in any direction , now remember he is a DCV and use a wheelchair sometimes . He is going back to court to try and get his 45 auto back he carried in combat back . There a sign on the door no firearms , but none at the parking lot which is only fenced at the street side walk . I have been going to that Va hosp and parking in the same lot for 10 yrs for my dad and for me and left my gun in the trunk also . He said I can't drop my dad off in a wheelchair at the door and park in the street with a gun in a car . THAT IS A BUNCH OF B S in my book . |

I can't help but wonder how many of our vets would do it over again, knowing they would be treated in this fashion. It is a crying shame.

TN, having worked for the V.A. for 30 years, I can tell you that when you park (or even drive) in a V. A. parking lot, you are on a Government "reservation".....the same as being on a military base....the same rules apply.....no guns.....punishable by $500 fine and up to 1 year in prison.....this is stated on a plaque that is at every entrance to that hospital.....it would pay to read it.....and, as your friend found out, in the last few years, they really mean it.....not defending the V.A., but just telling it like it is.....

...I wonder if it is posted at the entrances...I used to go to the one in Dallas...in an area where you sure don't need to be without a gun...and just left it in the car...how'd the damned MP see it, anyways???????? The Feds are a crock of shit...the states should start passing laws to hinder them a little bit...like no carrying except in the line of duty...I know it wouldn't fly but I don't turn into an idiot the second I hit Federal property...screw 'em all...if I were the Colonel, I'd get my congressmen/women to get my gun back, arrest expunged....arrogant bastards......'now on the other side, I knew a vet here who went to the VA, found out he had cancer, went out to the car, brought back a pistol...went back into the little room and blew his brains out....I can see why they don't want guns, but they should let them leave them in the car...and all he should have gotten was a warning, anyways....pricks!!!!!!!! just sent the above to a retired Asst. Chief from here...what a raw deal!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

Tell it to congress....they make the rules......the V.A. is run by congress.....that's why it sucks.....

And I'm 66 and pushing my dad in a wheelchair 4 blocks in Nashville and back to the car again without a gun is a joke . The only signs are posted at the hospital doors . I will hide the gun 2 blocks off VA land and away from there video camera's and hope they don't look in the car for it . Like BH would say ...SCREW THEM |

Just so everyone understands, especially TN, I don't agree with the rule...hell, I used to keep on in my truck all the time, knowing it was illegal.....I was only stating that the rules are posted, and they are real serious about the rules since they decided to arm the V.A. police a few years ago.....

TN, have your friend contact a senator or a representative, and see if they can help....I know in FL, Sen. Cliff Sterns is a friend of the vet and will go to bat for them in a heartbeat.....from what I rememeber, Nashville was not really pleasant to the rest of us.....they always seemed to have a chip up their butt..... Ours carried 40 cal Berettas, fully loaded, with one in the chamber.....my best friend's husband was a cop at the Gainesville V.A.....got tired of the BS and came to work for us in the IT dept..... |
