Loved it., too, but nope, it got sold off during a purge and switch to 1911s. It was basically a Performance Center 637. They still make a PC 637, but not with that label. Yup, should have kept it, but never anticipated my physical problem with racking a 1911 slide. Live and learn. This time around, I've decided to stay mostly with 357 mag J frames for the added versatility. The Model 60 and 649 are all steel guns and very practical to shoot with 357s and, of course, 38s. Those are already woods carry guns for me. Have the option of shooting SA with, either. At 23 ounces, hardly know they are there in my excellent Blackhawk IWB holsters. ![]() My M&P 340 is a hammerless scandium frame gun in 357. Will likely stick with 38s in this one because of its light weight. Does everything the Deep Cover did and more. It's lighter, the trigger is equally as good and the sight setup is far superior. The XS dot/night sight front sight is easy to pick up 24/7. Best sights setup I've ever seen on a J frame. This is a true pocket or purse carry J frame. Really is the ultimate J frame for SD work. ![]() |

I love my 642 , but it 2 drawbacks . Being Combat pistol and Cowboy action shooter for over 40 yrs I learned to point and shoot and never aiming in rapid firing , but you need to see the ft sight and that one on you MP 340 is the answer for 642 . I don't have a machine shop anymore to make a ft sight . ![]() ![]() |

Like you, I really use that front sight for self-defense and rapid fire work, so I usually paint the front sights on my J frames. It works, sorta, but the sight on the 340 sold me as soon as I saw it. I'm always leery of doing the lighter spring trick in any of my revolvers for the same reason. I prefer to do a little dry fire work with a new gun to smooth it up a bit and to strengthen my DA pull, instead. The beautiful light trigger on our Ruger single actions like our 357 Flat Top or our Vaquero allows me to shoot those guns even faster than a lot of DA revolvers in DA mode and with more accuracy, to boot. Not telling you anything, there, of course. |
