This is my wife's carry gun..a S&W Model 31-1 J frame in 32 s&w long from 1981. It is really a sweet shooter and she can shoot it quite well. It may be a 32 caliber but shot placement is what counts. Rich S&W MODEL 31-1 |

Absolutely on shot placement. I actually shoot the 32 S&W Long, now and then, in my Ruger Single Seven 327, which, of course, allows me to shoot most 32 cal pistol cartridges. The Long is a great old cartridge, very pleasant to shoot in the Ruger. Still see ammo for sale, so hopefully it will be around for awhile, yet. All this reminds me that I'm way overdue to give the Seven a workout. Pretty tame shooter with the 32 S&W long and even the 32 H&R, but quite the powerhouse with some 327 mag loads. Gets me up in 357 mag country. ![]() |

nice guns.......... never really understood why the 32 fell out of favor so quick. Everyone i guess wants more power.....but i can certainly see the attraction for milder recoil. |

It's hard to explain the attraction that the 32 has for us 32 fans, I guess. I got the 32 bug years, ago, with the 32 H&R in a Single Six. Just loved carrying that 32 H&R out in the woods and plinking with it without worrying about how useful or effective it might be for other uses. Nice to have the option for more power by shooting the 327 in the Single Seven, but I actually shoot 32 H&Rs and S&Ws more in it. As for the 327, I think the industry made a mistake by trying to market it as a substitute for the 357 mag, which the 327 will never be. The 327 can stand on its own merits, though. For instance, it is a remarkably flat shooting revolver cartridge. Has potential as a good varmint cartridge for handgun hunters and I hope to do a bit of long range target work, come spring, with the Single Seven.
