I picked this one up back in 1990. I didn't need another 38 special but a fellow at work needed $ 200 like right now and asked me to be his pawn broker. We agreed that if the loan wasn't repaid in six months I would keep the gun. He wasn't into guns so he told me to just keep it. It was my edc prior to switching to a Model 10-7. I cant believe what these are selling for now. Here's a couple of pics. Rich. COLT DETECTIVE SPECIAL THIRD GEN. 1974 |

Those are fine revolvers. I think you would do well in the pawn business. That's a nice example of a great every day carry gun. If I remember correctly, it will take the model 10 speed loaders too!. |

I passed on it, and that became the start of a long list of Rugers. I wonder what percentage of people had a snub revolver as a first gun? I've known several. With you on the Model 10. A few years, back, bought one of the current production S&W Classic series Model 10 and, have to say, it was a joy to shoot. One I should have kept, but this time around, I'll try to find a pre lock 10. Can't say I'm in that percentage that had a snubbie as a first carry gun. For me, carrying has been mostly about woods guns and in that category, I've actually carried Ruger single actions more than anything else. |

I had a chance to get a NIB stainless Det Spl in the late 90's from a gunsmith I did business with (before cancer got him) for $ 300. Passed and have kicked myself every since. That is a fine looking snub. |

I'm pretty sure that's what Barney Fife carried in the later episodes, after he moved to Raleigh and made Detective.
