Polishing

I have decided that I'm tired of the SS finish on my GP100.....I have decided to polish it.....Should I try doing it by hand, or would it be worth getting a dremel?.....if it comes out nice, I will probably do the SP101 also.....

Oh, and I thought about using Mothers, because I have it on hand.....

Re: Polishing

I like the polish SS look , all Vaquero are polished from the factory. Once a year I go over them with 1500 or 2000 grit wet and dry sand paper and finish with semi-chrome .

Re: Polishing

I would almost think that the small felt wheels of the Dremel would give you a swirly uneven look. I would think that you would have to have the larger nap and felt polishing wheels that they use on a bench buffer to get a more consistent polish. But if you polish it by hand enough times...she'll get nice and shinny that's for sure.

Re: Polishing

I have yet to polish my GP 100, but I did polish the flat part of the barrel on my P95. It looked great! It took forever! I used a fine sand paper and did it by hand. I do not remember the grit, but I experimented quite a bit. I remember that it seemed best to use a rougher one and then go to finer. If I used too rough a grit, it would leave scratches that I had to work out.

I am not sure any of the above is helpful, but I do remember somebody covering it on rugerforum.net

Re: Polishing

Just bury it for six months to give it a nice patina.
