I type too slow to give you all the information needed . There is a 1000 different Bore cleaners and I think I own 1/2 of them . There is 2 I like the best . Kroil will remove lead or copper and most bench rest shooter use it . Read the reviews at the paste below on it . Most auto parts carry it , midway shipping will kill you . The only cleaner I leave in a bore is HOPPE over 12 hrs and I leave in my bore till I shoot it again .

I use a coated cleaning rods 99% of the time and use the proper guides and guards to protect the bore and chamber is super important . I hope this help you ...

I have had bad luck with using a bore snake to clean a bore. But they are great for keeping a clean bore clean. I always have one at the range and will run one down the barrel every now and then. Its fast and easy to do. In the past I would just leave a bit of CLP on it but now I use FrogLube. Don't use very much.

I never use a dry brush, a always wet them whether using a rod or snake. I also run a wet patch with frog lube through the bore at the range as soon as I am done shooting a gun.

Why I ask is at my gun shop that's all they uses some say dry snake some say oil or cleaner on the snake.
I'm starting to think bore snakes are age controlled, the younger guys uses them the older guys don't.
I have two 22 snakes that not even Superman himself could pull threw my 22's two different brands and yes they are for 22. But the 1 that does work I like to use with Ed's red cleaner.

They are very difficult to pull threw the first couple of times when new but after awhile its like cutting butter.

The Bore Snake will NEVER clean the bore like patch and solvent , wet or dry . I have 3 bore snake and 10 rods at different length . The Bore Snake is great to take to range or carry it with you hunting . All the match I shoot I never seen a Bore Snake come out and clean bore in any matches . I would need 3 or 4 Bore Snakes to clean my bores . I use the Kroil to lift and remove copper or lead . dry the bore and then I use Hoppe to clean and freshen bore and before firing gun I dry the bore out again. .
There is 10 differ ways to clean a gun and I have 100 differ gun solvent in my garage I've try and this works the best for me .

Again like I said before I'll bet your a little older than 30-40 years old. The young guy claim a snake is better than the patch and rod. They think newer is better.

I'll try the Kroil oil I order a can from Great Lakes Firearms it was $7.99 and free shipping.

Sometimes newer is better, same reason I would use a chain saw instead of a whip saw. No one here has said that the snake does a better job than a good rod and brush. They are a great tool for a quick cleaning at the range. To get a rod through a rifle bore from breach to muzzle on a lever gun requires you to remove the receiver cover. Not something I want to do in the field. Otis makes cleaning kits that use a coated cable which works very well for pulling the brush and patches through. But I prefer to use patches with a jag for a good cleaning and that requires the use of a rod. And I prefer to clean from breech to muzzle when possible. I don't like pushing anything backward down the barrel. It may be hours before I can disassemble the gun so I run a snake through a few times. Then hit it with a wet patch and let it sit till I can. And I will be 60 in June so sometimes us old guys can appreciate the proper use of a new tool.

There is a lot of guns I own must be clean from the Muzzle and that is why I use a muzzle guard on my cleaning rods . Here is some of my rods with muzzle guard on them from 17 to 50 cal . I alway clean from the breech when if possible and use a chamber guard also . I use maybe over 20 patches to clean my bore in my guns and I can't afford 20 bore Snake to get it clean .
