Loctite

Do you use Loctite and if you do what number (color) do you use?

RetiredSeabee 02-03-2014 03:00 PM

Blue I think it is 242.

I "blued" down the 6 screws on my Weaver mount for two of my Ruger 10/22's about 5 months ago. I just did it again last week as tboth bases came loose. All six screw in each mount. I cleaned them as well as I could and let them sit for a couple of hours before reassembling the bolt and trigger. We'll see.

Try purple or red.

I use the purple #222 on scope mounts. I never could find it in town, but ebay has it for $10 with free shipping.

How does the purple come off? I've heard the purple and blue require heat to remove it.

That's where I bought mine too. The blue I mean. I think I must not have cleaned the screws and thread holes well enough the first time.

What color does it dry to? I think clear, 303. Yes, the heat from a soldering iron is supposed to loosen it. Unless of course, I glue them. Then they just fall out after a few months.

I would imagine SG uses the blue variety for reasons we are all aware of. http://www.websmileys.com/sm/evil/1193.gif

I've never had to heat the purple, yet. It's the weakest formula, that is made for small screws. I use the blue quite a bit on motorcycles, and recently started buying it in the stick, like a Chapstick dispenser. It tends to not go bad like the liquid does.

Her lips are probably sealed so we'll never know why she did it.

Quick get the heating gun out.

gunjunkie 02-03-2014 04:55 PM

Maybe a few Blue Hawaiians would loosen up her lips.

We should start calling her hot lips.

I use blue & have not needed heat. I use red on my bike & luckily have never needed to take a nut with red off, cause it could be tough.

Use heat and it will turn a liquid again.

I use blue for most of my gun needs, but am very careful to degrease parts before applying. Have used red on scope bases on a few truly nasty kickers that have no iron sights on them, anyway.
