What exactly is that? Is it as tough as a blued finish? Better? Worse? Will it rust up like a blued gun if left in a holster a lot? This is my first parkerized gun. I like the look, but know nothing about it. I guess I could Google, but with the price of membership on this board, I might as well use it. ![]() |

It is a phosphate finish that is much more durable than a blued finish. It is very suitable for a service or duty type weapon. It is not as protective as the new coatings they put on Glocks and such but it holds up better than blue. Military weapons have used Parkerizing for a long time. I like the looks of nicely blued guns but I am much more comfortable handling a Parkerized gun.

Well that's good to know. I'm rough on my stuff at times. ![]() |

This gun is purely for function and not looks. I could have gotten a fancy SS dolled up gun, but I wanted something that I can get down in the dirt with. Something that will take a beating, and always go bang when I pull the trigger. Pretty is nice, but reliability is where it's at. ![]() |

The gun you chose should be great for that. I would be very comfortable with that gun for that use.

...Rem-Oil cleans, dissolves gunk...leaves a light lube, and should be all you need on the Parkerized finish....I'd recommend Gun Butter on the internals...it's slicker'n snail snot.... |

I usually lay the gun ion my lap for tapping sights right and left or for removing them from the dovetail. Works most of the time, but sooner or later, you will get a gun that needs more convincing to work on the sights. Then I support the gun/action on wooden blocks and break out the heavier hammer. The absolutely worst gun sight I've ever had to remove was the front sight on a couple of Ruger 1022s. If I ever have to do one of those, again, I will invest in a sight puller.
