I love my new AR, but have a little problem. I bought a single point sling attachment that goes under the castle nut, and an armorers wrench to remove it, and the darn thing is locktited on (rather than being staked on). How much heat do I need to use to get the locktite to come loose? We talking hair dryer, or small propane torch and a few quick passes?

Try a hairdryer first, if that doesn't work, use your lady's iron. Lay the rifle on it's side, preferably on a piece of wood, turn on the iron and let it soak for a half hour or so. I don't know if they make a de-bonding agent for Loctite, but you might check around and let me know if they do. Molon Labe Kim |

Well, it all turned out well. I called DPMS, and told them that the castle nut wasn't budging at that I was going to have to put a pipe wrench on the nut to get it off. I had to heat it quickly with torch, put on the pipe wrench and then pop the handle with a dead blow hammer. The locktite finally gave way and the castle nut came off. I got the single point sling adapter installed and it works great. The old castle nut was junk of course since I had to use a pipe wrench, but DPMS made it right by sending me the free replacement.

I've heard horror stories about the castle nuts on the M1A's too. I got lucky and mine came off real easy. It's cool that DPMS is going to take care of you. |

The flash hider is held on by one. I put the Vortex on mine, so it no longer has one. |
