I sold my TN222 to my friend so my name will be attach to the gun as the maker . I built this gun in the 80's to shoot in my retirement . But my health put a stop to that and really never got to shoot it . It is still state of the art gun and will win any benchrest matches across the USA .. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

TGR, so very sorry that you never got a chance to shoot that amazing rifle. I hope whoever got it does it justice.

Bummer. But you did shoot it some and at least you know you built something better than any other. Can you tell us more about how you built it?

The ream is custom made and reamed 2 only other guns and both guns had set World Records in the late 60's and 70's . It is a tight neck 222 which means the brass is NEVER sized . The dies only knock out the primer and seat the bullet . All you do is put new primer , powder and bullet in case and fire . The trigger in gun is a stock Remy 700 I made into a 2 oz trigger . The stock is a Mc Millan custom ordered and made for me . To build that gun today would be over $2000 less the scope and the scope was a B&L 24X cost almost $1000 .

What bolt did you use? I suspect the headspace was very tight.

Those old B&Ls were fabulous scopes, as good as it got, back in the day. Kind of sad the way the world has lost interest in the 222, one of the greatest cartridges of all time. In our area, you actually have to go hunting to find 222 on store shelves and our local gunshops really don't want to take 222 rifles in on trade. That darn 223 has really put the burt on the 222 for varmint hunting and the fancy 6mms for benchrest shooting. As for being light years ahead in knowledge, TGR, yes. Me? Maybe a light second or two on things that don't count for much, anyway. ![]() |

303 ........ It is the original XP bolt . The bolt if hand fitted to barrel with zero clearance or movement without a load and seals the bolt to barrel then it is head spaced . Head spacing on a TN222 is not super important since the brass is NEVER resized . NCG ... The TN222 did held the world record for 10 shots at 100 yds the last time I checked . My buddy Pete said there is a renewed interest in the TN222 at the short ranges . The short and fat 6mm I think is still king of the hill . Pete did shoot the 600 to 1000 yd benchrest stuff but old age and bad shoulder is making him stop shooting those guns . ![]() |
